Castle Kilbride Designated as a National Historic Site
[edit]I noticed that the external link on this page now redirects to a press release page at http://www.pch.gc.ca/pc-ch/infoCntr/index-eng.cfm that only covers the period 2007-2009. However, the URL [1] (as of 2009-09-28) archives the fact that the URL used in the external link on this page was at one time valid:

The ceremony was held on the lawn of Castle Kilbride, Baden, Ontario. Other dignitaries present were Gary Leadston, M.P.P., Kitchener-Wilmot; Ken Seiling, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo; and Lynn Myers, Mayor of the Township of Wilmot. The Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada recommended Castle Kilbride to be of national historic and architectural significance "... by virtue of the superb decorative mural paintings gracing its principal interior rooms...". The Board stated that "... the classical style of the paintings, which combines classical and Italian Renaissance influences, illustrates the mid-19th century attempt to re-establish the lost art of mural painting in the Renaissance tradition." Castle Kilbride is a superior example of an Italianate villa of its period. Mr. Richardson noted : "Today, one year after the opening of Castle Kilbride, it is very important that all of those who have supported the dream to restore this unique piece of history are acknowledged for their efforts to preserve our heritage for future Canadians." Minister Dupuy added: "I am proud to welcome Castle Kilbride to the distinguished family of over 1,000 people, places and events that are recognized to be of national historic significance." The Minister of Canadian Heritage bestows national heritage designations upon advice of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. The Board recommends persons, places and events of national historic and architectural significance. - I found a current URL with a copy of the news release, and updated the URL in the article. Fortunately, the correct title of the release was used here, and it was an easy search to find the current URL. PKT(alk) 14:49, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
