I will begin reviewing the article. SL93 (talk) 19:04, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- The first reference can be placed after "It is part of the Raleigh–Cary, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area" because both sentences are in the same source.
- I can't find any information of the 2020 census for Cary, NC in the source, but I did find [1] this which does mention 174,721 in the 2020 census, but I'm not sure where the rest of the sentence came from.
- This reference says that Cary started as a "railroad village" rather than a "railroad town".
- "Cary High School was the first state-funded public high school in North Carolina." This reference says that it "was likely the first state-assisted public high school" rather than it being a for sure fact.
- "The creation of the nearby Research Triangle Park in 1959 resulted in Cary's population doubling every decade from 1950 to 2000." I don't see the fact in the four references.
- "Cary is now the location of numerous technology and manufacturing companies, including the largest privately held software company in the world." I see IT companies being mentioned, but I don't see the word manufacturing used.
History
[edit]- The first reference in the section can be placed after the second sentence because both sentences share the same reference.
- "After the Revolutionary War, the community was conveniently on the road between the new capital in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill." The word "conveniently" doesn't seem needed and it's not in the reference.
- "and built his home Pages, a sawmill, and a general store." It seems that Pages is an accidentally added word.
- " the Nancy Jones House, the former home of Jones of Crabtree" I'm having trouble finding where it says that it's the former home of Jones of Crabtree.
- "in relatively good condition" - I don't see this in the source and it seems like an original research summary
- "built a Second Empire style hotel" - I don't see "Second Empire style" in the reference.
- "Cary was incorporated on April 3, 1871, with Page serving as the first mayor" - The reference only gives 1871 as the date.
- "(later the Seaboard, now CSX Transportation)" - I don't see these two things in the references.
- "Once dubbed "Cary's longest running annual celebration", the now named North Carolina Gourd Festival moved to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in 2000." The quote should be attributed to whoever or whatever said it.
- "The town seal lost its references to gourds in the late 1970s." - I don't see the 1970s mentioned in the reference.
- "(now Austin Foods/Kellogg's)" - I don't see Kellogg's in the reference.
- "Apparently, "the sleepy town of Cary...was the ideal place for an emerging class of scientific and technical workers". - The quote needs attribution.
- "Pine State Creamery" - The reference says "Pine State Dairy Farm"
- "ten Local Landmarks" - I don't think local landmarks needs any capitalization.
Geography
[edit]- "Located in the piedmont region of the eastern United States" - I'm not sure where "piedmont region" came from.
- Having four repeats of the reference in the first four sentences starting with "Cary is seated on the boundary" is overkill. Same with some of the use of the 52nd reference.
- "However, newer construction in Cary, both residential and commercial, shows "less regard" for trees" = The quote needs attribution.
Architecture
[edit]- "light-filled, comfortable, and functional" - The quote needs attribution.
Freeways and primary routes
[edit]- This section needs to be referenced.
Smart city technology
[edit]- Reference 54 has citation overkill.
- "TravelSafely®" - Is the copyright symbol needed?
Notable people
[edit]- From what I see in GAs for similar articles, the notable people list does need each entry to be sourced. Rublamb You could shorten the list to make it easier. SL93 (talk) 00:07, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
That is all that I can find. SL93 (talk) 20:15, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Pinging {{u|SounderBruce}] who placed a reference needed tag on the list of notable people and DiscoA340 who removed the tag. I have never seen a list of notable people in a city be referenced when the biography articles mention the fact. I thought of it as more like a see also section, which also isn't referenced. I could be wrong though. As for the reference needed tag that SounderBruce placed on the Freeways and primary routes section and DiscoA340 removed, I agree with SounderBruce. SL93 (talk) 22:24, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Fix ping - SounderBruce. SL93 (talk) 22:24, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- While these are index-like, lists of notable people are generally cited on articles that do have them that are promoted to GA/FA (e.g. Arlington, Washington). For truly notable people, it shouldn't be too difficult to find corresponding sources online. SounderBruce 03:36, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- SounderBruce Thank you for the helpful answer. SL93 (talk) 13:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

The nominator updated this on their talk page so I will just paste that discussion here. -
- Thanks for you communication about the ary, North Carolina GA review. I believe I have addressed all items on the list. However, there are two items that need explanation. There was a suggestion that other churches be included in the history section. I found those churches already in the article--in chronological order in the 1870s section. The first church was built in the 1840s which is why it is mentioned in a different paragraph. Also, there was a question about the sources for the second sentence in the introduction. When I looked at this, I found that 1) the text itself cites the U.S. Census as the source which is allowed per MOS, and 2) the data in question is linked to Wikipedia articles that rank cities. I tried to make these article links more visible with hopes that it will make more sense to reviewers. I also changed the citation to one that is easier to navigate since the comment indicated difficulty in getting to Cary's data through the main U.S. Census portal. Is letting you know this through my talk page adequate? Thanks, Rublamb (talk) 14:40, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- I ended up removing the thing about the churches. I was mixing up a couple articles that I have been looking at. I'm sorry for my late response. I was thinking that you would respond on the GA review page and that is where updates should be added. SL93 (talk) 21:20, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- I have been watching your updates to the article and everything looks fine now that the notable people list is referenced. I still don't understand why GAs require those citations, but whatever I guess. I will copy and paste this discussion to the GA review page and close it as passed. - Thanks. I am not sure why sources were needed on the notables either, but it was easy since most had sources in their main articles. Sorry I responded in the wrong place. I was not sure if I could add to that page as the nominator. Am responding her to again thank you for your time and help. Rublamb (talk) 23:06, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
