Renaming
[edit]I'd like to get some consensus over the proper name of this article - Carvels certainly aren't restaurants. A suitable alternative could be Carvel (franchise), although it looks like there's no article labeled Carvel, instead being a disambig page. I'd think that Carvel should be moved to the page and the disambig page moved to Carvel (disambiguation).
- A restaurant is an commercial retail establishment that serves prepared food for consumption on or off premises. That Carvel serves desserts doesn't mean they are not a restaurant. They are a specific subset of restaurant called an ice cream parlor. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 17:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- That's a very loose definition. And if you've ever been to a Carvel, you'd know that it isn't a restaurant. The Oxford definition is a far better citation:
A place where people pay to sit and eat meals that are cooked and served on the premises.Source
- This is the proper definition of a restaurant. Carvel neither serves meals nor cooks food, with seating as a mere amenity, so it is therefore not a restaurant. "Ice cream parlor" is a decent term to describe a Carvel location, and is another option. Yet both Carvel (restaurant) and Carvel (ice cream parlor) mislead readers, as they appear to describe one location. The article text refers to the franchise of parlors, and thus Carvel (franchise) is by far the better option.--ɱ (talk) 18:20, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Confusion on ownership
[edit]The article states that Carvel stores brand is owned by Focus Brands. Yet the article on Rich Products claims they own the brand for ice cream cakes. What's the deal here? -- Alexf(talk) 21:21, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
Co-branding
[edit]I intend to add text and a photo to show co-branding. Balintawak (talk) 23:16, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
Please don't undo corrections of basic English
[edit]I edited the first paragraph to conform to elementary school English standards. We use either "it" or "their", not both. And it's "soft-serve" with a hyphen. Balintawak (talk) 21:50, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
I moved the contents of the "today" section that started with an event in 1989 to history.
[edit]Please discuss if you think 1989 is today. Balintawak (talk) 23:19, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Fine that can be fixed, but that wasn't my point. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 00:00, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Re: Edit summary
[edit]Re: this edit summary: I may well have done that, but as it says on my userpage, I'm blind, so I can't possibly have any opinion about the photo placemen on this article. I don't know anything about Carvel; it's only on my watchlist because of this edit. Graham87 02:36, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- Also if one or both of Balintawak and ɱ are happy to keep an eye on the article, I wouldn't mind unwatching it. Graham87 02:40, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Reply to admin Graham87 from editor Balintawak: I don't maintain a watchlist. Carvel was tagged for 3 years for having unreferenced content. I decided to do the work. I was able to locate a reference for much of the material. I noticed a Carvel co-branded store in California and thought that might be an interesting addition. I shot a photo of it and included it and an Internet reference to Carvel co-branding in the article. Another editor was constantly reverting some of my edits and deleting my photo without going to the talk page. I was treated like a vandal. I've been an editor for 11 years and this was a new experience for me. I have no COI with Carvel, I'm not a vandal and I don't do paid editing. By the way, my employer is a $1 million donor to the Wikimedia Foundation. My intentions here are good.--Balintawak (talk) 13:18, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Balintawak, I appreciate your addition of references. As for the photo, I appreciate your efforts, however the first image you added was cropped in such a way that it was of poor quality. The newest one is fine however. Sorry for not discussing more here; I thought that the edit summaries were sufficient. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 17:24, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
