Gillespie the "liberal"?

This really needs a citation: "Much like O'Connor himself, Gillespie was racially progressive and politically liberal, but the character of Bill Gillespie was also a smart and tough police officer who was not afraid to use his gun when the occasion called for it."

I would agree that Gillespie character was often more progressive on racial matters than many in the rural southern town (albeit with mixed feelings at times), but he was a career LEO who didn't trust "yankees" and would be the furthest thing from what most people would identify as a "liberal" unless there are some examples from the series I am forgetting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.80.236.53 (talk) 16:10, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
