Firsts
[edit]According to book "Black Firsts" by Jessie Carney Smith (2009 edition), "Carole Simpson substituted for Peter Jennings on Wednesday, August 9 this year (1989) and again on Thursday night, becoming the first black woman to anchor a major network newscast during weekdays. She was also the first black woman television newsperson in Chicago...After becoming the first black reporter on WMAQ-TV in Chicago in 1970..." (pg. 424)— Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.191.63.159 (talk • contribs)
- "During weekdays" sounds like extremely thin parsing. The first Af-Am woman network anchor at all would be the significant breakthrough. The Chicago item might go in the list of Af-Am city and state firsts.--Tenebrae (talk) 13:11, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
