Notability

I think nobability is given. We have even a Template:USGS Directors. Ok, she isn't director of the Norwegian Geological Survey, just of its Centre for Geodynamics. But the center has powerful computer capabilities, see plate reconstruction ([1]). Carmen Gaina has 1299 citations on Google Scholar, 1027 citations since 2007 ([2]). --Chris.urs-o (talk) 06:41, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chris, the Centre for Geodynamics is really a research group within a fairly small national geological survey, albeit an extremely good one - it just doesn't bear comparison with the USGS. As it stands I would reckon only Trond Torsvik (he really needs an article) meets the notability criteria from that organisation - Carmen will undoubtedly get there, continuing the way she's going, but my feeling is she's not quite there yet. A professor with a meter high publications (with many citations) is ok, the Talk:Hawaii hotspot#Carmen Gaina section is about a breakthrough. Trond Torsvik will get his article someday too, probably. Norway is able to buy nice computers selling his gas.
