Years in Assembly

@RFD: Do you know what years Carlos Douglass was in the assembly? Is it just 1873 as the reference suggests? -- Dolotta (talk) 17:49, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Dolotta: I just checked the 2007-2008 Wisconsin Blue Book; there is a feature article: Those Who Served: Wisconsin Legislature: 1848-2007. The article has a list of Wisconsin Legislators who served from 1848 to 2007. Carlos L. Douglass served only in 1873. At that time, members of the Wisconsin Assembly was elected every year. In 1881, the Wisconsin Constution was changed and effective in 1884, the term for the Assembly was increased to 2 years. At the same time the general election cycle for the Wisconsin executive and legislative branches was switch from odd to even number years effected in 1884. The Wisconsin Senate went from being elected every 2 years to every 4 years at the same time-many thanks-RFD (talk) 18:12, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@RFD: That's right! Now that you mention it, I remember that article as well. My sister works for one of the members of the Assembly so she keeps Blue Books coming my way. If I remember correctly, the constitutional officers served two year terms as well until something like 50 years ago. I believe it was sometime in the late 60's or early 70s's.
