After Race and Reality
[edit]Exactly what became of Putnam after he finished his last work? I've yet to find anything online beyond on how he died of pneumonia.
- According to his obit in the Good Grey Lady, "...he withdrew from public life." https://www.nytimes.com/1998/03/16/us/carleton-putnam-dies-at-96-led-delta-and-wrote-on-race.html
- He would have been in his mid-sixties after his last book.
Citations list useful for updating this article and related articles
[edit]I'm surprised by several omissions of sources about the life of Carleton Putnam in this article. You may find it helpful while reading or editing articles to look at a bibliography of Anthropology and Human Biology Citations, posted for the use of all Wikipedians who have occasion to edit articles on human genetics and related issues. I happen to have circulating access to a huge academic research library system at a university with an active research program in these issues (and to other academic libraries in the same large metropolitan area) and have been researching these issues from time to time since 1989. You are welcome to use these citations for your own research. The biographies of many writers on these issues on Wikipedia are very thinly sourced, and looking up more sources will help improve the articles. For this article about Carleton Putnam, I especially recommend reading Tucker, William H. (2007). The funding of Scientific Racism: Wickliffe Draper and the Pioneer Fund. University of Illinois Press. ISBN 978-0-252-07463-9. {{cite book}}

External links
[edit]So, I noticed that the "External links" section links to several of Putnam's works, which are hosted on a website that condones racism (the JR Books page). I don't really feel comfortable with linking to this material directly, and I'm not even sure if the site got permission from Putnam's estate to host his works there. I've decided to hide these links for now, but I want to know what others think about including these links. 131.194.189.202 (talk) 02:22, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
