Towards elevating this article to GA status.

[edit]

Its almost impossible to over emphasise the impact this encyclical has had. At the top of the reception section there are sources showing the impact on top political and business leaders, its still being widely discussed at high level meetings today, for example it came up at a meeting I was at with Lord Turner of the FSA last month. The Financial Times sources suggest the encyclical may have helped secure an extra 5 billion for the fight against hunger, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. A year back it was looking like the best hope for building a fairer world where even the poorest can benefit from prosperity was the resurgence in Keynesian economics, but that movement has now been largely neutralised and much of the action has shifted to the spiritual dimension. As one of the most significant recent examples of religion influencing men and women in high office to work together for the common good, it would be great if we could get this to GA status!

Possibly the reception section could be expanded to about 5 times its current size. Theres probably enough on the reaction of political & business leaders for now, but we could do with better sources for the reaction from Catholics, Protestants, Muslims and the general reaction from secular commentators. Probably we should report on what Hindus are saying, and have a reaction from the NGO sector. Maybe we could have reactions by each of the five continents.

Most of the above reaction should be positive, so once its added in we could have more criticism. I think the most hard hitting and insightful critique is the one from Irish Times, but we could also add more about the encyclicals position on contraception.FeydHuxtable (talk) 20:40, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On the 1 Aug 2010 re-write

[edit]

To the IP editor who re-wrote the Synopsis on 1st August. Thanks for your contribution, but unfortunealy many of the sentences you added seem to have been copied direct from the official Vatican Summary. I've reverted much of your changes, and added an external link to the summary instead. Theres no reason why you cant make some minor changes, but please try to avoid large scale copying from other websites. FeydHuxtable (talk) 13:45, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
