Photo needed

[edit]

Hi; became aware of Carey from yesterday's (jan. 7) The Province (I don't usually follow hockey....) so looked him up here, as so far no one's done an article on Anahim Lake, British Columbia and I've been planning to, someday...(if you want to start one, click on that redlink and just begin...). The photo in The Province was really good - if that wasn't a reporter's photo but from a family album or otherwise donatable to public domain, please upload it (link at left - "Upload file" below search window); tag to use would be placed at top of page and would be [[Image:FILENAME.jpg]] , and substitute the name of the file for "FILENAME.jpg". And Carey - good luck in your career, and have fun!!Skookum1 22:15, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

a photo of Price's back? bad choice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.210.3.167 (talk) 02:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note to Ulkatcho visiting this page

[edit]

Hi. Because there wasn't an article yet, I just created one for Ulkatcho First Nation, which you can visit by clicking that link, and also edit and expand as you see fit, bearing in mind WP:COI applies, although in cases like this it's a given that only a member of the organization would know enough to add to the page properly. Figured I'd post this here as someone from Anahim is more likely to visit this page (e.g. Carey's mom, Chief Price) than to look up the First Nation page, which didn't exist before (I linked it in this article, too).Skookum1 04:12, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

personal background

[edit]

um about carey siblings, i dont believe its necessary to put up personal info like a school on carey's siblings, it seem it viloates their personal life —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gallahead (talkcontribs) 03:18, 17 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Birthplace

[edit]

Just wanted to note that the body lists his birthplace as Vancouver, and the infobox lists Williams Lake. If someone could fix whichever is incorrect... Radagast (talk) 01:52, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As below re the most likely source to minor league stats, it never hurts to go to the source, so to speak. His Mom is the chief of the Ulkatcho First Nation and I think they have email.....she, ahem, would be the one to know, I'd say....Skookum1 (talk) 22:18, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8471679 says it is Anahim Lake. An IP has been changing it to Vancouver quite a bit latterly. Hopefully (s)he will come here and discuss his/her new source. Dbrodbeck (talk) 22:25, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
http://www.careyprice.com/bio/bio.htm as does his official website. Dbrodbeck (talk) 16:40, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The IP user provided sources from Sportsnet and The Globe and Mail for Vancouver as the correct birthplace. I tend to trust those secondary sources more than league and team sources. Permafrost46 (talk) 17:09, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I just want consensus is all. I wonder though, Price's official website, would that not trump everything? That said, it is likely not written by Price...... Dbrodbeck (talk) 17:13, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I recall similar discussions with other editors regarding personal websites, Twitter accounts, etc. of hockey players. Some believe they should have precedence, others (like me) believe they are primary sources and should be used with caution. I think both stances can be defended on a case-by-case basis. Here we have some pretty strong secondary sources about his place of birth being Vancouver, so I would go with Vancouver. But again, both stances can be defended. Permafrost46 (talk) 17:18, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, his website was likely not updated since 2011. Permafrost46 (talk) 17:19, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt his birthplace changed since then though..... I would think if we had a confirmation from him via say twitter that would be cool (as he does post his own stuff there, pictures he takes etc) but I can see the potential problem there. I am fine either way. Perhaps others will jump in with an opinion. Dbrodbeck (talk) 17:51, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to say that I reverted an IP contrib that changed the birthplace back to Anahim Lake without removing the first reference (BIG GAME HUNTER...) because it seemed contradictory. Permafrost46 (talk) 19:35, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Jumping in because this has been a bit more active of late. Couple more sources here. This, this, and this all make mention of Price being born in Vancouver, and this curse even includes a quote from Price's mother identifying Vancouver as the birthplace. – Nurmsook! talk... 19:56, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames

[edit]

Can we please stop with the unsourced nicknames? Names like Pricer (you know, when a hockey player has 'er' appended to his name) are not notable, and the others like 'the Price is Right' which I have seen as a headline, I think we need a cite for such names. Now matter how clever they may be....Dbrodbeck (talk) 11:13, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor league stats

[edit]

Some new stats were just put up for Price in 2002-03 with Anahim and Williams Lake. I couldn't find these stats for Price anywhere on the internet, execpt for Anahim on NHL.com, but the stats are different. Can somebody else find a source for these newly edited stats? Orlandkurtenbach (talk) 22:22, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, I suggest maybe an email to the Williams Lake Tribune sports reporter might get you back some publication dates for the stats, if not an actual online article (they're not a big paper).....Skookum1 (talk) 22:14, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WHL Playoff Stats

[edit]

WHL Total Playoff stats are clearly wrong, someone need to find a valid source and fix it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael.muryn (talkcontribs) 17:28, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I adjusted the stats based on NHL.com's profile. There is no totals listed for his WHL stats so I had to calculate the Save % and GAA, I'm not 100% sure they are right but it should be a lot closer than what was listed, .985 is not even close.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 20:34, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I found his real WHL stats at the official WHL website, http://whl.ca/roster/show/id/2595, I adjusted everything correctly (only his playoff stats seemed wrong before I edit), I guess we can delete this topic in the discussion page? MickoZ (talk) 22:13, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Playoff Stats

[edit]

I think some ultra Habs fan has been going around making Carey's playoff stats look a lot better than they actually are. The goalie stat line in the playoffs is W-L, not W-L-OL. I suppose 3-4-3 looks a lot better than 3-7 (2011 playoffs) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.91.228.17 (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Carey Price in born in Anahim Lake, not in Vancouver. 184.160.15.107 (talk) 00:14, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The cited source is unambiguous: "Price wasn’t born in Anahim Lake; that happened in Vancouver." —C.Fred (talk) 00:30, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To paraphrase even further, I think we can change the first sentence of "Internationally, Price has represented Canada at various tournaments at junior levels, winning silver medals at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2004 and the IIHF World U18 Championship in 2005." to "Price has represented Canadian Men's Hockey in various tournaments." SkylarPeters (talk) 22:19, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article is well-written and of high quality. The introduction is clear and easy to understand. If I didn't know much about hockey or Carey Price, I would be able to learn a lot from this article. SkylarPeters (talk) 22:27, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions, Strengths and Weaknesses of this Article

[edit]

I have checked majority of the citations and they are reliable. If you click the links they work well. Majority of the resources used came from TSN, CBC, Hockey Canada, NHL, etc. These are very reliable for this particular article. SkylarPeters (talk) 22:36, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think we can reword a few sentences to avoid close paraphrasing or plagiarism. SkylarPeters (talk) 22:36, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to Carey Price's Wikipedia Page

[edit]

1. Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? A lot of the facts that are presented do have references. The references can be clicked on and take you to the page about that information. For example, all of the teams that Price has played on, have a reference to the teams page on Wikipedia. Another example is the awards that he has won. These references are accurate and can be trusted. Under the title Philanthropy, it states that Price donated $10,000 worth of hockey equipment to a minor hockey team in his home town. However, this information is not cited. Also, there is a table with all of Price's statistics every season with some of the statistics not being cited. Other than these two things, the article is cited excellently with reliable references.

2. Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you? I think that all the information in Carey Price's Wikipedia article is relevant to the article topic. The topics discussed are his early life, playing career, international play, personal life, awards, career statistics, playing style and philanthropy. All of the information under the headings relates to the title and shares great information about Carey Price. I do not think that there is anything distracting about Price's Wikipedia page as the page flows very nice with titles and pictures. The reason that it flows so great is because it is in chronological order.

3. Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added? All of the information is in chronological order. It starts with Price's early life growing up in British Columbia. The article then moves on to his junior hockey career. After this, it has information on every single season in the NHL which started in 2007 and continues until 2017. Other sections such as the awards he has received and Price representing Canada Internationally. The information under these headings is also all chronologically in order. Some information that could be added however, is some information from the current season that is ongoing. The article has stated that Price is injured the first time, but does not talk about his second injury. This injury is a concussion which should be mentioned and how it happened.

unsourced and POV statement in lead

[edit]

I'm not seeing the justification for "Price is widely considered as one of the best goaltenders in the world", let alone "Price is widely considered as the best goaltender in the world." That appears to be an unsourced WP:POV statement made in Wikipedia's voice. Who exactly says that he is the best, or one of the best? Yes, he was very highly ranked when he was drafted, and he has won goaltending awards. That's sourced and I have no problem with that, He has been a very good goalie, but to say that he is widely considered to be the best or even one of the best requires sources stating exactly that. Without such sources this is, at best, WP:SYNTH.

I'm removing this line. Please do not restore it without providing reliable sources. Furthermore, given his injuries and poor play last season, any such sources would have to be current or very recent sources to show that the statement is still valid. Meters (talk) 18:14, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The reason the page is protected was because people were changing his team without any evidence of a transaction taking place. That's why I've protected the page until the expansion draft is scheduled. —C.Fred (talk) 18:31, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change to intro paragraph

[edit]

In the opening lines it still features a line saying: "He is considered to be one of the best goaltenders in the world by many colleagues, fans, The Hockey News, and EA Sports" I hate to be that guy be there's a 99.9% chance he never plays again so the time is coming for this to change. Not saying the time is right now but definitely in the near future.

Are we thinking 1. "widely considered one of the best goaltenders in NHL history", 2. "widely regarded as one of the best goalies from his era", 3. something about "best goalie in modern NHL history", 4. "widely regarded as one of the greatest goaltenders from his generation" or something else? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Squidnasty (talkcontribs) 11:33, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
