Rewrite

The best point from the previous version of this article which wasn't included (in some way) was this:

I didn't find any sources in my initial writeup, so I'm leaving it here for now. If somebody wants to cite it and add it back in, that's great. Hoping to expand the article some more soonish. Staus 03:57, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Complaints

I find it very interesting that CarMax Employees such as TheRollingRock and LavaLamp post on here while trying to conceal their identity and pass themselves off as independent 3rd parties. This is especially interesting since they just passed a company wide policy to not post on websites (this was designed specifically with wikipedia in mind) unless it is approved by the Media Department. One can only conclude from this that TheRollingRock is an approved member of the media department. Further since this is a very small department you can limit the people down to one of the two on this link http://media.carmax.com/pr/carmax/info/default.asp As I stated just very interesting that CarMax is using this free Wiki as a method of advertising. -- TheBigTruth2007

I agree with TheRollingRock, this addition is completely subjective, unsourced, and written using terms like 'You may find' and 'what you think'. Anyone who agrees/disagrees ... please comment here. Staus 00:02, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Visit http://www.ripoffreport.com and search for Carmax for a list of complaints against CarMax. You may find that the 125-point inspection, or the extended warranty is not always what you think. Reports are generally against the service department of the company, but responsiveness from the managers and corporate offices are a big problem with this company as well.

I agree with Staus and have been removing the subjective content. User 24.55.157.208 repeatedly posts content that is subjective and violates Wikipedia's Neutal Point of View (NPOV) and editorial policies. Until this content is verified and proven factual, I will continue to remove it as necessary. TheRollingRock 13:38, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Sourcing articles

I wish to remind everybody contributing to this article, that additions (particularly negative accusations) need to be verified and referenced to an appropriate source before they are inserted into this article. Had to remove some more unsourced, seemingly internal information. Wikipedia is not a place for detailing the inner workings of a company. See other comments on this page for Wikipedia policies as they relate to the required sourcing. 75.38.192.226 (talk) 18:55, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

There continues to be unverified, rumor-based information on this page. It appears that some people are out to bias the article away from being fact based. This is getting quite annoying. Hay guys... there are a number of sections of the article that talk about the inner workings of CarMax and contain no sources. Maybe an employee posted it? *shrug* Either way according to our policies (WP:V) we need to have citations and sources for all material in the article. I've added some {{fact}} tags to a few places where there is some material that needs to have sources.

Now... the material can't stay forever. At some point in the next week or so I am going to go though and remove whatever is left unsourced under the assumption that it can't be sourced.

Why does the CarMax PR department try and put their spin even on everything? It is so funny to see them try and distance themselves from anything negative. I am sure the Exec’s selling stock was legal however was it really responsible activity? They knew the sales numbers were going to be so bad thanks to the daily Flash report they receive that details all of the sales at every location and where the store is to budget. Don't tell me that they didn't know the numbers were going to be bad and that it didn't influence their decision to sell. I think it is especially funny when the advice from Executives and Senior Management is to never sell stock or options. Article rewrite

I have significantly rewritten the article, based on the following:

• WP:LEAD - the initial section should be a summary, not filled with promotional details
• WP:NPOV - it is a violation of the neutrality principle of Wikipedia to give undue weight to relatively minor matters - for example, to CarMax's relatively small charitable efforts
• WP:NOT - Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collector of information. For example, we really don't care about the exercise facilities at a corporate headquarters.
• WP:V - non-factual statements cannot be taken from websites of concerned parties. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 01:15, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Is this an advertisment for Carmax or what?
