Vandalism
I'm fairly certai is not supposed to be there, but when trying to revert it I couldn't find it in the edit section... Also, the table doesn't seem to appear and some of the text in the sex section appears to be rather large. Could something be done about all this? 94.11.179.246 (talk) 20:55, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Clean up
This article was a shameless piece of fluff which misrepresented and overstated sources. I've removed sources that did not mention the subject of the article. Other sources make only a one sentence mention of Moran or Captain Sparklez. The article is now clear and concise and accurately reflects the sources. I'd like to AfD this article but its already been there once so I'll refrain. This person has received some slight pop culture notability for creating a single YouTube video. His life has no other media significance or notability. If the AfD vote is to keep, then OK, but the article should be brief and free of promo fluff.-- — Keithbob • Talk • 19:40, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Unnecessary Citation needed
Yeah, there's a pointless "Citation needed" at the end of the article when it lists his YouTube videos. The information is accessible on his YouTube, Facebook and Twitter accounts, and is common knowledge.
Additionally, it's worth mentioning that his most popular video, Revenge, is currently one of the highest, if not the highest, video game related video on the site. 2601:9:3D00:5E8:146D:4C1F:ECA5:9939 (talk) 17:18, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
Biography
This page relates mainly to Captiansparkelz rather than Jordan Maron. Jordan himself uploaded a video describing his background and life growing up. I believe that this video would be a good source to the page. [1] Calibreslicer (talk) 07:19, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

The legal battle
I'd like to put in something about how YouTube deleted the video after it's initial posting and how, after quite a large legal battle, Jordan was allowed to re-post the video. The video had 5 million views before the initial deletion, and has amassed 32 million plus views afterward. I couldn't because I couldn't figure out where the links stopped and the text began, as well as where to put it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TylerinBellevue (talk • contribs) 16:27, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Jordan Maron → CaptainSparklez – Per WP:COMMONNAME. He is much better recognised as CaptainSparklez than by his real name, in sources and general media. The opening statement of this article even sates this. Lazz_R 14:00, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - We don't conflate the act with the actor. We don't conflate the channel operator with the channel name. This person's main website is jordanmaron.com, has a music channel and a vlog channel which use his real name, has won awards using his real name, and is generally presented as that in reliable secondary sources. "CaptainSparklez" is just an alias, not a stagename. -- Netoholic @ 15:13, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

As shown in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROLRtjnAe-o) Jordan Maron has given express permission for Wikipedia to use his Twitter and Instagram photos. Here is a photo that I think should be added to his profile IonImpulse (talk) 23:08, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
- "For Wikipedia" is not a valid release. Do not upload photos unless you know what you are doing please. --Majora (talk) 04:06, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Can you be a little more verbose about what do you actually need, so we could give Jordan feedback on what he needs to do to have a photo here? --TakeruDavis (talk) 06:42, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- @TakeruDavis: Specifically, we need him to send an email to permissions-commonswikimedia.org with this email template and the photograph he wants to upload attached to the email. The email template is carefully formulated to release his legal rights in a way that is compatible with Wikipedia (e.g. under a Creative Commons license, irrevocably allowing anyone, not just Wikipedia, to use the photograph for any purpose). Ensure that this is a photograph which he took himself and owns the copyright for. Mz7 (talk) 06:47, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- @TakeruDavis: Now that I think about it, alternatively he could just state, either verbally or in text, that a specific image is "released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license". This is probably simpler than an email. Mz7 (talk) 06:58, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for listing both options, I will forward this information to him right away. I had some thought about it in the meantime and I am guessing the need for fully open permissions is because people want to use Wikipedia as source for their own articles and they would not be allowed to use the photo, if there was a "Wiki-exclussive" license, is that right? --TakeruDavis (talk) 07:13, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, exactly. We want Wikipedia to be as free and open as possible. I’m really sorry for all this complication. Copyrights can get messy that way. Mz7 (talk) 07:20, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks. Glad we could clear this up. --TakeruDavis (talk) 07:33, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you Mz7 for giving instructions. Please also note, TakeruDavis that only the copyright holder can change image's copyright status. This is generally the photographer, not the person in the photo. I've looked at Jordan's photos like he asked you all to and a good majority of them he does not have the right to release to us. They are very clearly taken by someone else. If he is going to release a photo to us he would have also had to have been the photographer (there are other ways but that is the most straight forward). If you have further questions please let us know and we'll be happy to help. --Majora (talk) 11:40, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Uuhhh... wow, Mz7 was not kidding, copyright is messier than toddler's diaper. All the rules around it feel like an elaborate prank. So, in other words, the easiest approach for Jordan would be to either make a selfie or have someone take a new photo and on the spot also record the photographer say the photo is for public use? --TakeruDavis (talk) 14:06, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Heh, yeah that does sound like the easiest approach. Basically, we want a photograph which he is the owner of and thus has the authority to release the copyright for. Mz7 (talk) 15:32, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah...copyright is one of the most complex, and at time illogical, things we have to deal with here, TakeruDavis. You can thank Congress for that. At least we don't have to deal with international copyrights. Those are their own, very large, can of worms. Speaking of illogical, wording would matter a great deal if you want to do the second option you mentioned. "Public use" means nothing. "Public domain" would be better. "This photo is under the CC0 (pronounced CC Zero) license" would be best. So if you are looking to go down route B keep that in mind. Having Jordan just take a selfie would probably be the better option to be honest. He can pick whatever free license he wants and just put "I release this photo under the <insert copyright license here>" in a caption next to it. We recommend the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. Either way, once something usable is posted somewhere let us know and we can handle the upload and make sure it is right. --Majora (talk) 16:09, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Channel names for YouTubers? Why no consistency?
We need to be consistent. We need to have a policy. We must choose a template for all YouTuber articles, but which?
- The articles must always be based upon real name, if possible.
- The articles must always be based upon the channel with the most subscribers and/or the first one created (we can debate this, depending on the YouTuber).
I support the real names idea. Where can we go to have this debate? My talk page? Or should we just discuss every YouTuber article on WP on Maron's talk page? This has been the wiki Ice Key. Thanks for reading. (talk) 16:19, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
Creeper, Aw Man
As some of you already know, The "Creeper, Aw Man" meme has taken off recently. Although Jardon did post the video, I don't believe it was his doing that made it into a meme. I believe it would be appropriate to mention the meme regarding his music video, however, I don't think this article requires too much information.
Over time, people might try to add more information about the meme to this page. If the Revenge section of this article get flooded with information about the meme, I am unsure if it should be kept of removed.
The main reason I don't think the Revenge section to go too much in detail about the meme is that it was not Jardon's doing that made it a meme. This article is focused Jardon himself, his work, and his affiliations. Revenge was one of his (along with a few others') works, and it's completely appropriate that the work is included in the article. The meme, however, was not created by Jardon. Sure, the meme is about one of his works, but this article shouldn't give him all the credit. Of course, a small mention of the meme, maybe in the form of a single sentence, is perfectly acceptable in my books, but again, I don't think it would make sense to go too much into detail.
What do you guys think? Should this kind of information be kept or removed when it's added? --User:Diriector Doc (talk · contribs) 20:26, August 1, 2019 (UTC)
