Shouldn't it be Capitale-Provinciale? --AW 18:44, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The term "national" (referring to the Québecois or French Canadian nationality rather than to an independent country) has been in use for many decades or even centuries in Quebec. It is not challenged even by federalist Quebeckers. Cortomaltais 22:37, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah --AW 21:41, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Late response, but as this has been discussed elsewhere recently, I'd just like to note that regardless of what anybody thinks the name of this region should be, it's not Wikipedia's role to make pronouncements about that: we use the title that reflects what the name of this region is, and the name of this region is Capitale-Nationale whether you agree with the use of Nationale in this way or not. In keeping with this, I removed the following statement from the article :
However, even though there is a sovereigntist sentiment that exists in Quebec, the region is still technically home to the Provincial Capital, not the National Capital.
The reason for this is : (1) The fact that there are (obviously) sovereignists in the region has literally nothing to do with the name of the region. The provincial government has been controlled by federalists for the better part of the last 15 years and there have been no challenges to the use of the adjective "nationale". The vast majority of Quebecers consider that they form a distinct nation and that question is distinct from the political question of whether that nation should or should not be independent. (2) There is nothing "technical" to point out here. The city is not "technically" the provincial capital, it is the provincial capital, which doesn't preclude it from also being the "national" capital of the people who inhabit said province and who consider themselves to be a distinct nation, regardless of their province's membership in a Canadian federation. 198.72.56.237 (talk) 10:10, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Distinguish Text: Quebec City Area

[edit]

The French Wikipedia version of this article adds a distinguish text to distinguish this page from Quebec City and the opening paragraph also notes the difference with the Quebec City Area. Should the English version make the same clarifying distinctions? Volitian (talk) 23:58, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
