Bridge Incident

[edit]

Someone should include the incident circa 2000 when a baby fell from the bridge onto the bank of the river. I'd do it, but I don't recall enough information about it. - Hinto 18:37, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

We work at Capilano Suspension Bridge, and we disagree. We don't think that that information belongs on this page because it doesn't explain about the beauty of our park. The park is a marvolous place for people of all ages, and the bridge is completely safe. We hope to see you at the bridge in the near future!

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a promotion guide or advertisement space; encyclopedias contain facts. It's a fact that such event did happen on this bridge, and so, belongs in this article if one were to happen to add the information. It is also a fact that 800,000 people visit the park each year and (as far as I know) no one else has died, showing that the bridge is safe. Such information could be added too. Zhatt 22:26, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

We are not using this page as a promotion. We just don't want this one event to poison our page that time was spent on. Unless you can find an exact date and every detail about this event, please do not write about it.

I noticed that you are being quite NPOV with the information you are adding and I applaud that. I also don't know the exact details about the event in question and therefore, am not writing about it. I'm just warning that if such information is added by another user, it can not simply be dismissed because it detracts from the "beauty" of the park. On another note it would be useful to create an account and to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). Thanks, Zhatt 02:00, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

POV and accuracy concerns

[edit]

As silly as it sounds, this article is riddled with opinionated POV. Sources for death and near-death incidents need to be cited as well. 69.236.184.108 09:38, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I had asked the original author of those additions to cite a source and has recently done so. I have also personally checked the facts and added some of my own along with sources. The incident involving the suicide is still up in the air. Zhatt 20:59, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am the original author of the incidents section. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any direct references to the suicide incident. Again, because it was a suicide and not reported on major media it is difficult to find. Therefore, the only way tht I can see this getting backed up would be to: 1) Have a copy of the death certificate for the individual in question, 2) provide a copy of the police report surrounding this incident. I am not sure on what steps are involved, and I imagine that this isn't information that is given out readily. Abu sme 07:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a pass with NPOV in mind - hopefully it'll help. The figures are now metric, although it could probably use some fact-checking to verify dates and numbers. --Ckatz 09:35, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Capbridgelogo.jpg

[edit]

Image:Capbridgelogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:17, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The following text has numerous sentences that are word for word with text on this webpage: www.capbridge.com/rates_information/park_history/index.html

In 1888, George Grant Mackay, a Scottish civil engineer and land developer, arrived in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. As City Park Commissioner he was one of the people to set aside Stanley Park as a recreational area. He also bought and sold farm land in the Okanagan, founding the city of Vernon. Mackay purchased 24 square kilometres of dense forest on either side of Capilano River and built a cabin on the very edge of the canyon wall. Assisted by two local natives and a team of horses, Mackay suspended a hemp rope and cedar plank bridge across the river. Natives called it the "laughing bridge" because of the noise it made when wind blew through the canyon. The bridge and Mackay's cabin became a popular destination. After his death, the hemp rope bridge was replaced by a wire cable bridge in 1903.

The following sentences are word for word with this webpage: www.capbridge.com/rates_information/park_history/1910.html

Mahon built the Tea House in 1911, using cedar timbers stacked one on top of the other. Unsure of the bridge's strength, Mahon reinforced it with additional cables in 1914.

The following text is word for word with this webpage: www.capbridge.com/rates_information/park_history/1953.html. Only the unit of concrete was changes from tons to tonnes.

In 1953 Rae Mitchell purchased the bridge property from Henri Aubeneau. A dynamic businessman, Mitchell aggressively promoted his attraction world-wide. Unsure of the 1914 cable strength, he completely rebuilt the bridge in 5 days in 1956, encasing the cables in 11.8 tonnes of concrete at either end. He developed the trails on the west side of the bridge and converted the Tea House into the Trading Post Gift Store. When Mitchell retired, business declined and Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park faced an uncertain future.

Cost?

[edit]

The word "overpriced" should be removed from the first paragraph. --128.239.114.33 (talk) 04:11, 29 February 2012 (UTC)mbc[reply]

Agreed. Done. - Denimadept (talk) 17:08, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two years later -- can I say substantial? What does anyone think? It is a characteristic of the attraction that it is not cheap. If preferred, I'd be happy to look for references to support my assertion and to add something to the page. I'm looking for guidance on how best to proceed. Thanks. Tre1234 (talk) 05:20, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem you would need a source saying why it was at unusual cost. 24.22.59.104 (talk) 04:46, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Incidents

[edit]

What's noteworthy about a random selection of deaths/falls/jumps? It seems to me the inclusion is misleading and or not noteworthy. do we have a list of all the people who jump from other bridges? 24.22.59.104 (talk) 04:46, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
