Some comments re the discovery of Cape du Couedic by Europeans
[edit]The following was obtained by a search of http://www.placenames.sa.gov.au/ revealed the following information about Cape du Couedic:
Other Details English form of the generic term. Charles Louis, Chevalier du Couedic de Kergoualer (1739-1780), a French Naval Officer who commanded the frigate "La Surveilante" and was killed in naval activities in 1779. Mis-spelt Cape de Couedie on many maps. Supporting Information DR.397/1913 / Nicholas Baudin Vol 3 Pg 119 / Withdrawn Public Map / General Plan of tthe State / 1888 Pastoral Field Diagrams or Pastoral Survey Diagram Book / Admiralty Charts / 1:50 000 Mapsheet - 1st Edition / 1:50 000 Mapsheet - 2nd Edition / Cooper's "French Exploration", "The Unknown Coast & Supplement" Pg 61-62 & 176-177 / 1:100 000 R641 Series - Edition 1 / 1:250 000 R502 Series - Edition 1 /
It would appear that the some of the above has been used in the article without appropriate attribution. Accordingly, this content has been removed. A review of sources at hand support that Cape du Couedic was named by Peron & Freycinet rather than Baudin as the Baudin expedition had two ships that were deployed separately to survey the coastline of what is now South Australia. In other words, it is possible that Baudin never saw Cape du Couedic. A copy of Cooper's "French Exploration", "The Unknown Coast & Supplement" will be sought and studied in order to provide additional citations for the article.
