Carbon Canister
[edit]This term is usually used in vehicles equiped with internal combustion engines. It refers to a device that stores fuel vapors and prevents them to escape to the atmosphere. Industrial (non-mobile) engines should have a canister inside its fuel system too.
The carbon canister contains "activated carbon" which stores fuel vapors until canister is purged even by the engine vacuum generated at the intake manifold or when a "vapor management valve" opens the system and sends all fuel vapors to the engine combustion chamber.

[edit]I removed the reqphoto template as I have added a photo. I'm waiting on another being developed. --Kateshortforbob 00:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]I would suggest that "cannister" is a common mis-spelling rather than an alternate spelling. Greybeard2ca (talk) 21:35, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
