Criteria for inclusion
[edit]Do not archive this thread
A cancelled denomination of currency is a denomination that meets all of the requirements below:
- Planned for circulation, the denomination must have been a circulation denomination that was planned, proposed, or considered by either the United States government or a government official with the proper authority.
- Canceled, the denomination must have been canceled before it was released to the public. It may, however, have been released to the public as a collectors item.
- Not a circulated after cancellation, the denomination must not have been reconsidered and put into circulation. If it was later discontinued and removed from circulation, than it would be eligible for obsolete status.
What is not a cancelled denomination of currency
[edit]
- A commemorative coin that was not produced (example:Gadsden Purchase half dollar)
- A coin or banknote that was not released to the public, but was exclusively used by the government (example: $100,000 banknote)
- If you are not sure if a denomination should be included in this article, feel free to ask. - ZLEA T\C 00:10, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
What is the reason for omitting the proposed currency-notes bearing Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Tubman?
[edit]Please see http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/sba$2.html for the proposed but never-issued Susan B. Anthony currency-note and please see https://www.staugustine.com/story/news/nation-world/2016/04/21/hamilton-stays-10-bill-while-tubman-goes-20/16311212007/ for various proposals concerning Harriet Tubman. Apparently designs actually existed for these notes. I say "apparently" I'm not sure.2600:1700:6759:B000:1C64:8308:33BC:E2D6 (talk) 19:17, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Christopher L. Simpson
- The main reason for not including the proposed designs is that they are not proposals for new denominations, only design changes to existing denominations. Additionally, to my knowledge, the Tubman design has not been canceled, and there are still plans to eventually add Tubman to the $20 banknote. - ZLEA T\C 23:43, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
