what are campaigns? what are battles?

[edit]

this article appears to be a mixture of campaigns and of battles. And it does not match the the various battle (with their campaign/theater boxes) or campaign articles already in the American Revolutionary War category. Why these discrepancies? Who decides what is a battle? What is a campaign? And what they are to be named? Hmains 17:32, 7 April 2006 (UTC) Thanks[reply]

These "campaigns" are actually part of the U.S. Army designated "named campaigns" which provide the basis for awarding campaign streamers, which includes battles, campaigns, and other expeditions. The text of the article is just a copy-and-paste from this website. The article is misnamed "American Revolutionary War Campaigns" because the person doing the copying-and-pasting apparently doesn't fully understand what they were copying. For a fuller explanation of what this is, see this page. --Kevin Myers | (complaint dept.) 03:19, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but what I Copied-and-Pasted is from this website: US Army Institute of heraldry. If you are going to accuse me, at least get the proper website.18:11, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
The initial version of this article, which you "wrote" (here), just happens to be an exact duplicate of the website I mentioned above (this one). Imagine the odds. --Kevin Myers | (complaint dept.) 01:18, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thats old but government text is public domain anyway. Secondly this article isn't about the streamers, which is what I wanted to know about, it is about the campaigns or battles or whatever, which I am certain is on Wikipedia elsewhere. Does anyone know anything about these streamers? If so add it, if not, some categories need to be deleted from here. I'll check back in a few days, or before pending a reply.A mcmurray 15:52, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment: each of these battles presumably has its own article -- perhaps each section should be linked to the "full article" about that campaign? -- Avocado (talk) 19:16, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
