Ryskamel

[edit]

The Cornish name Ryskamel seems to be formed from Cornish "rys" meaning "ford" and "kamel"; this differs from the older forms of "Camelford" which may be made up of "cam" meaning "crooked" and "allan" the old name of the River Camel to which the English "ford" has been added.
