"while the poses of both the Madonna and child acted as a prototype for works by, amongst others major artists such as Robert Campin, Jan van Eyck,..." - better make clear that both of these two were dead before the work was displayed at Cambrai. Johnbod (talk) 13:11, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. We make a similar claim in the Berlin article, and the influence is clear on JvE's fountain Madonna, which is where David indirectly becomes relevant here. I havnt figured out yet how Jan became aware. I think its explained in Harbison's book but I dont have that one. I'm not sure how to couch here, suggestions? A close "Workshop of J van E" copy of the Fountain Madonna is the next pic (#353) in Evans, where Ainsworth has plenty on its Byzantine fore-runners, but not relating it to the Cambrai M. It is a different type, with the "playful child". I'll have a go. Johnbod (talk) 16:05, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Do you have the Parshell article? Its very good on the different Madonna types, though ostensibly about Fra Filippo's work. Ceoil (talk) 16:10, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I could get it I think - I have JSTOR for a year. Not sure I will. Johnbod (talk) 18:07, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Classy. Ceoil (talk) 22:30, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Very nice, but a bit too much of a good thing.... Johnbod (talk) 02:08, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
