[edit]The river was named after the Calusa Indians. And Hatchee is the Seminole word for "river." So it is really the Calusa River River —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.21.160.184 (talk) 20:00, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
I agree. In this part of Florida, it is referred to a "The Caloosahatchee" (no "River.") Compare with "The Amazon." ExpatSalopian (talk) 15:02, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Removed deadlink to video
[edit]I removed the link to the no-longer accessible video that apparently contrasted the natural river of more than a century ago to the highly modified waterway now call the C-43 canal. More could be said in the article about that change. I'm not ready to add a section on that topic, but I have found some sites on the Internet that could be used as sources.

- Dredging History of Southwest Florida Inland Waterways.
- State restoring part of Caloosahatchee headwaters.
- Caloosahatchee River (C-43) West Basin Storage Reservoir Project.
I'll come back to this when I find time. - Donald Albury 14:55, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
