New Intel Papers

I find it hard to believe that there is no mention on the marketing section about the files that were sent to digitalwarfare247.com and to codblackopsblog.com

http://blackops.digitalwarfare247.com/news/black-ops-intel-recap-plus-daily-wallpaper-2

This is really interesting. There was a lot of analysis here, and one of the pages contained the chemical compound for tetrodotoxin. This is a real world example of near-zombification. Check it out, I think it's worth posting. If not for the zombies, at least in the marketing section, as those two packages were sent to

Not a reliable source, and probably not notable either. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 04:26, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Wii

It says that the Wii version will have the main version under platforms. Generally Wiis gotten watered down PoS versions of cod. Should wii maybe be listed as a secondary version?69.146.33.239 (talk) 19:17, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

No, because the Wii version will have the same engine and campain as the other versions. Sure, it might lack features, but at heart it's the same game, unlike the DS version. 17:27, 2 July 2010 (GMT) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.159.58.143 (talk)

Zombies

Zombies mode has been confirmed by Treyarch so why isn't it mentioned in the article- most would be fans of this game would be extremely interested in its addition to this article and I think that it will be a major component of the finished game. (Die Snack 2.0 (talk) 06:10, 20 June 2010 (UTC))

Why does the 30th anniversary matter?

Officially announced on April 30, 2010, the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Embassy Siege...

What's the point of this? How is the Iranian Embassy Siege related to Black Ops? IoWn3rU (talk) 22:20, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Not really Black Ops, but that was when the SAS really went public. Halofanatic333 (talk) 17:39, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Gameplay section

It seems that the sources are themselves speculating. I wonder if we should hold off on this section until better references can be found. Dbrodbeck (talk) 22:25, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Dunno about that, I mean the trailer is comprised of game footage, correct? It's safe to say that the guns seen in it will be in the game, that's what the Call of Duty Strategy article did. 24.14.48.245 (talk) 00:19, 10 May 2010 (UTC) I'd also like to point out that the development section has a lot of speculation as well, it even claims it. 24.14.48.245 (talk) 00:21, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

That seems to be getting perilously close to Original Research, what do others think? Dbrodbeck (talk) 00:34, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
I see where you're going, but this isn't something that's very debatable. If there's an AK-47 in the video, there will be one in the game. You know what I mean? IoWn3rU (talk) 01:37, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Also would like to point out that the speculation article in question has been featured on N4G. Link: http://n4g.com/news/519149/speculated-black-ops-weapons-list 02:37, 10 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by IoWn3rU (talkcontribs)

sources

I do not think the call of duty wikia is a WP:RS Please find a better source. Dbrodbeck (talk) 17:26, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I agree, because that's like going Ċonto the wikipedia page for Call of Duty and using that as a source. Find the source for whatever they said there, and then copying that source here.BlackSabbath1996 (talk) 22:27, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Development

THe fact that USA today covers the game is immaterial. I tried to make some changes but got a citation error, if someone that knows a bit more than me could fix it that would be a good thing... Dbrodbeck (talk) 11:27, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

GKNOVA6

Has the GKNOVA6 alternate reality game been officially tied to this game yet, or is it still speculation? Fezmar9 (talk) 16:47, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

yes, in the new trailer the GKNOVA6 logo is seen

random part

"Another new game mode announced is "Army Relaxation" where the player can go to swimming pools in their camp and steam rooms etc., another part of this game mode is "massage" where the player can enjoy a massage which then leads to a sex scene where the player must press the right buttons to pleasure the woman". Really? I dont think so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.232.116.71 (talk) 20:09, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

IW 4.0???

Judging by the trailer, the visuals look similar to that of Modern Warfare 2. Have any websites confirmed the use of IW 4.0 for this game? Treylander 15:22, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

It uses a modified COD:WaW engine. Check the page for the reference. UnknownThing (talk) 07:06, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Theres a call of duty wikipedia if it wasnt obvious I thought we werent supposed to copy other websites completely Ghost07 (talk) 22:49, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
It is a wiki, not a 'wikipedia'. I have no idea who copied whom, but wikia is not a reliable source anyway. Dbrodbeck (talk) 23:11, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
And I have no idea what we "copied"...--PhantomT1412 (talk) 08:05, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that too is a good point... Dbrodbeck (talk) 12:12, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
I checked so far nothing if anything we have a lot more information than they do. Ghost07 (talk) 17:52, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Maybe it was about the contributor who completely changed the page format, and indeed copy/pasted from the CoD Wikia page.--PhantomT1412 (talk) 22:06, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Petrenko

Has the possibility of Dimitri Petrenko coming back been announced because if Reznov is returning then there is a chance he could come back as well as the characters were very close. Ghost07 (talk) 03:15, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I've heard nothing like this yet. But I'm sure that Roebuck and Polonsky won't return since one of them can die.--PhantomT1412 (talk) 07:29, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I have seen let's play footage of the game on the internet, and Petrenko is available in one mission of the game. However, the plot summary won't be available until Tuesday just to keep Wikipedia out of trouble with Activision and Treyarch. I have a word document saved and it is ready to go.Dibol (talk) 05:58, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Vahn's statements on official forum

Some of you may know, multiplayer lead disigner David Vonderhaar aka Vahn often post to see community's suggestions, to discuss them and give HIS opinion, or some of the people's at the studio. As there are opinions, or things that may not feature in the final product, it's better not to include any statements even coming from posts by Vahn on the the official forum. And even Vahn prefers that way as they are not official announcements by Activision/Treyarch:

"It seems that what I say can get picked up by the gaming press as some word on what we are doing or not doing with the new game.

This is a understandable if a bit unfortunate, as it will make the PR and Studio bosses unhappy with me.
"-Vahn

"Of course, the last time I even suggested how I felt about something the community wanted, it got interrupted as fact and how we were doing things. All this does is get me in trouble and sets up your expectations incorrectly."-Vahn

Mature Rating?

Where is the source for it? The page says it's received the rating of Mature, but where is it sourced? I saw the Australian classification, but just because that got an M doesn't mean this instantly gets M. I personally hope it's M, but some one please add the source. --RCChrisdude 21:33, 20 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RCChrisdude (talkcontribs)

Found this release with Square doing this over the fiasco they had in Japan/Asia about from their release of MW2. If no one objects, I can put this in the article later on. Ominae (talk) 22:13, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Multiplayer Movement

Unlike recent styles of movement in the Call Of Duty Series, the "Dolpin Dive" has been instated by Treyarch. An alternative to "Drop-Shot" gameplay movement, the "Dolphin Dive" has enabled the user to avoid situations by diving to cover after sprinting. This subject has become controversial since it may disable the players ability to "hit-the-deck" when being shot at by enemies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theshanker12 (talkcontribs) 22:33, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Add section for Current Issues (host lag, hacks)?

It would be very useful for users to know what current bugs or issues there are especially when it comes to hacks. There are various hacks out there (my experience on ps3) that will make people invisible and invincible, or have much more life. And give people crazy amount of COD points, which I think other genuine players should know about to spot the hackers in the lobby. This has been an issue for a long time now. I don't know why the developer hasn't made a simply patch update for the game to prevent hacks.

Another common issue is lag. Im not sure how many players know this (im sure vets do) but when the game makes you host, it delays your game (effectively artificial lag) to make it fair to those that are connecting to you, but they overcompensated (im not the only one to attest to this) and the game becomes unplayable for the host as you will get killed the millisecond you see someone.

Just my suggestions. Thanks for reading! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.90.197.217 (talk) 02:21, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Release

It appears that there is an edit war occurring over the date of release, and, as the references say that it was not released in 1999, that it is the information that should be displayed. Unless all of the references are wrong, which is unlikely, the logical thing to do is leave the dates as they were before. As no-one has provided any alternate references, I shall revert to before this started. Lennboticus (talk) 16:17, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

German chemical weapon, not Soviet

The single-player campaign revolves around an experimental Soviet chemical weapon codenamed "Nova-6".

Nova-6 actually was a weapon of mass destruction to be used by the Nazis, not the Soviets. Patrikey (talk) 09:34, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
