Fair use rationale for Image:CSU.PNG

Image:CSU.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:57, 2 June 2007 (UTC) yes —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.100.128.137 (talk) 20:42, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Paul Cook

Anyone else notice that the link for Paul Cook links to the Sex Pistols drummer and not, say, the assemblyman? lol Shinku Hisaki (talk) 08:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I fixed it. Alanraywiki (talk) 13:23, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Reorganization effort to get article to FA status

I will need as much hep as I can get to have this article in FA status, eventually. If you disagree with some of the edits made, please discuss it here rather than starting an edit war. Thanks, House1090 (talk) 03:56, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Here is my sandbox so we can experiment around: User:House1090/Sandbox/Cal State San Bernardino. House1090 (talk) 04:13, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Peacocky language

I reverted an edit by Alanraywiki, stating it was written in peacocky language and unsourced. I added a source about it being one of the most beautiful campuses in the CSU system. Could you tell me what was the peacocky part so I can rewrite it or do something about it. House1090 (talk) 02:16, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Let's breakdown my edit into two parts. The first sentence, added by a CSUSB staffer, states "The hills are a dramatic backdrop and contrast the modern buildings, wide lawns, clean spaces and airy, park-like feel of the campus." See WP:TONE, WP:PEACOCK, and WP:BOOSTER to understand why this is inappropriate. The second sentence refers to some kind of survey done by all students in the CSU that resulted in CSUSB being selected as the most beautiful of all the campuses. Where is this survey? The reference given is just a sentence on the university web site. A reference to this survey is needed. I am removing the sentences again. If you want this article to be a GA, that kind of puffery won't fly. Alanraywiki (talk) 02:44, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
I will look for for the survey, and see what I find. House1090 (talk) 02:46, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
I found this: [1]. How's that? House1090 (talk) 02:49, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
When you read the entire page, you see that it just consists of campuses saying how wonderful they are. The sentence still needs a citation for the actual study. Alanraywiki (talk) 03:19, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay I will continue to search and if I find something, I will put it here. House1090 (talk) 03:34, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. If you find the actual survey results, I am okay with putting it back in. If not, it should stay out. Alanraywiki (talk) 03:37, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Riverside County Category?

I have discussed this before but, i thing the Category should be removed since there all ready is a Palm Desert Campus Article (PDC) and that one has the riverside County category. In addition, this article is about the main SB campus, which is clearly not in Riverside County. Thoughts? House1090 (talk) 18:00, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Despite its geographical separation, the Palm Desert campus is a part of the university. This article is not about the main campus of the university, it is about the university itself as an institution. Therefore, I disagree with your proposal to remove the category. --TorriTorri(talk/contribs) 06:34, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Kinzey

An edit has been made in the history section about a professor wanted in connection with selling drugs and being a member of a motorcycle gang. The history of the university does not appear to be the appropriate section, and I'm not sure it belongs in this article at all (it is already in the gang's article, and that seems more appropriate). Adding it may be violating WP:UNDUE and WP:NOTNEWSPAPER. What are the thoughts of other editors? Thanks, 72Dino (talk) 21:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

NOTNEWS is primarily referring to an article created about an event. In terms of undue weight, a single sentence doesn't seem excessive; there are dozens or hundreds of articles that refer to him as a professor or a CSUSB professor in the title (in other words, not simply a passing mention buried deep in the article). Here are some examples. tedder (talk) 21:50, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
This history section still looks a little odd with one paragraph about the university and then a paragraph (actually the one sentence) about a professor. What if we expanded the alumni section as "Noted people" (per WP:UNIGUIDE) and moved it down there? 72Dino (talk) 22:03, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Part of the problem isn't the sentence about the professor, it's the lack of content in the history section. If it's moved to a "noted" or "notable" section, I suspect it would quickly go away per the "not a blue link" consensus. How about we expand the history section a little? I can probably work on it early this week or early next week. tedder (talk) 22:11, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Adding Kinzey won't improve the history section in the least. No matter how much other history is added, nothing about Kinzey will improve the section. The alleged criminal activity did not occur on campus or involve any other students/faculty and had nothing to do with his status as an associate prof. It is purely tangential info. The UNIGUIDE looks to include notable people -- and their academic background or achievement is part of the evaluation of their notability e.g., a factor for inclusion in such a section. Moreover, Kinzey does not qualify as notable IAW WP:BLP1E. Finally, while NOTNEWS may not apply to the article, this story is WP:RECENT and serves to unbalance the article. --S. Rich (talk) 23:09, 26 September 2011 (UTC)23:10, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Since there's been no more discussion happening, I'm happy to respect the consensus on this. tedder (talk) 01:57, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, Tedder. And as I have no COI in this regard, I've deleted the stuff.--S. Rich (talk) 02:54, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
