GA Review
[edit]- This review is transcluded from Talk:California State Route 70/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
- Lead
- Connecting Sacramento with US 395 near Beckwourth Pass (elevation 5221 feet/1591 m, lowest in the Sierra Nevada) via the Feather River Canyon, it was formerly known as U.S. Route 40 Alternate, crossing the Sierra Nevada at a lower elevation than Donner Pass on US 40 (now I-80). - reword, more on the lines of It connects Sacramento with US 395 near Beckwourth Pass via the Feather River Canyon. crossing the Sierra Nevada on US 40 (now I-80) [I hope that is what is meant in that sentence), I find the elevation redundant to list in the lead and should remain in the route description. Second, the other names of the route, should be in parenthesis in italics and not bold per MOS:BOLD.
- The portion of this west of SR 89 near Blairsden is also eligible for the State Scenic Highway System. - how is this relevant to the article? It sounds more like speculation.
- This means that it is legally eligible for the system, but is not officially part of it. --Rschen7754 (T C) 16:53, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Route description
- As it approaches the merge with SR 65 near Olivehurst, SR 70 becomes a freeway, which continues to just beyond the Yuba River in Marysville. - remove the "to"
- Within that city, SR 70 makes two turns and overlaps SR 20 before leaving to the north on a two-lane road. - remove "to the"
- The short SR 191 spurs north to Paradise, and SR 70 crosses the West Branch Feather River on the double-decker West Branch Bridge, with the Feather River Route below. - remove the comma after Paradise.
- The large Sierra Valley begins at the latter community, and SR 70 heads almost directly across, passing the north end of SR 49 at Vinton and the south end of SR 284 at Chilcoot before crossing Beckwourth Pass, which the railroad takes the Chilcoot Tunnel under, and descending slightly to end at US 395 at Hallelujah Junction. - it should say that it "merges" or becomes US 395.
- In accordance with other GA road articles this section should be split into sub sections, (i.e River to Canyon)
- History
- The US 40 Alternate designation was short-lived, and was mostly replaced by a new State Route 70 in the 1964 renumbering. - doesn't make sense, should be "by State Route 70", the "a new" is not needed.
- References
- All of the references should be written with a {{cite}} template.
- The California Public Works References: is the California Department of Transportation meant by this?
- Template
- Is there no template that lists all the U.S routes in California that can be placed in the article?

- Wikipedia isn't designed to list current road conditions and/or closures. The state DOT's have websites for that, and probably better they remain the single point of contact for such information. Specifically for CA-70 it would be https://roads.dot.ca.gov/ Dave (talk) 05:46, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
