family lineage of Caleb Brewster
[edit]The article states that Caleb Brewster is descended from William Brewster of the Mayflower. However, according to Geni.com and several other genealogical sources his grandfather Daniel Brewster came from England to Long Island after 1662. This would seem to indicate that Caleb Brewster is not a Mayflower descendant. I am hoping that this error in the article can be corrected. 24.180.86.124 (talk) 11:53, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- These two facts do not necessarily rule each other out. There were quite a few colonists, especially merchant families and aristocracy, who emigrated back and forth to England before the war. GenQuest "scribble" 12:51, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- Caleb is not a descendant of Elder William of the Mayflower. Lineage: 1) Caleb b 1747 in NY; 2) Benjamin b 1713 in NY; 3) Daniel b 1687 in England and Anna Jayne - Daniel was Town Clerk of Brookhaven for at least 25 years; 4) Reverend Nathaniel b abt 1619 in England - Educated at Harvard College - travelled to England and made a trip to Ireland with Henry Cromwell prior to being installed minister of church in Setauket 1665; 5) Dr. Francis II, barber-surgeon, b abt 1600 who died on the Phantom ship of 1646 - apprentice barber-surgeon to Edward Harris of Bristol - before that was a buttermaker there; 6) Francis I b abt 1556 and Elizabeth. The genealogist Donald Lines Jacobus MA in 1936 did an extensive study on Nathaniel and his parentage contradicting that he was a descendant of Elder William of Mayflower; nor was he a relation at all. Also see Passenger + Immigration lists; Dictionary of English Emigrants by Chas. Edward Banks 1937, 1957, 1987; Inventories of Estates; etc. The list of sources and information is vast and none support that Elder William and Caleb 1747-1827 were related. 69.172.165.14 (talk) 03:42, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
