Offset
[edit]The GMT offset of the Calcutta time as stated now in the article, 5 hours 30 minutes 21 seconds, must be wrong as this would be only 21 seconds apart from the contemporary IST (although IST is supposed to be in-between of the historical Bombay and Calcutta times). Going by the longitute of Kolkata one would assume that the historical Calcutta Time offset would be something near +5 hours 53 minutes, but currently I am unable to find the correct information.
Putting a strike through the wrong information in the article and hope someone will find the correct information soon. --94.194.213.6 (talk) 14:13, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
My "strikethrough" has been reverted now by another editor. Nevertheless, the correctness of the Calcutta time GMT offset has not been established as the "sources" quoted do not support it at all. --82.144.227.18 (talk) 16:32, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- Madras time was the intermediate "railway time" between Bombay Time and Calcutta Time and is, in that sense, the precursor to Indian Standard Time. [1]. 24.151.116.25 (talk) 21:53, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
