[edit]Back in 2008, KCNMA1 was renamed to Potassium large conductance calcium-activated channel, subfamily M, alpha 1 and then more recently to Calcium-activated potassium channel subunit alpha-1. I've discussed with Boghog (who made the most recent title change) the idea of moving it all the way back to KCNMA1; he/she agrees with the idea. Just wanted to post the idea here to let anyone chime in with objections or point out conventions I'm overlooking, before proceeding. For example, does Gene Wiki have a general recommendation of HGNC gene name (e.g., KCNMA1) versus common names (e.g., BK Channel) versus descriptive names (e.g., Calcium-activated potassium channel subunit alpha-1)? Thanks for any feedback! AlexanderPico (talk) 02:54, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- AMA manual of style and I think most journals, specify use the HGNC nomenclature and the HGNC name, not common names. JuanTamad (talk) 12:17, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
