Matrix Reloaded

[edit]

isn't giving "the matrix reloaded" film ALL the credit for the CTS's success unrealistic? It is implied in the article. Maybe crediting the success of the CTS with being "substantially due to the impact..." might be better. Even if the MT article does suggest it's ALL due to the movie(?), that's just one car magazine's opinion. versen 05:42, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also do not like how the article establishes the opinion from one magazine article as if it's a widely recognized fact. I have no problem with the article reference, but it should be put here as a claim by one person.

Also, what is the deal with the scene by scene description of The Matrix Reloaded? This is a car article, not a Matrix fansite. Heck, even the Matrix Reloaded article itself should not have this much plot detail - so I added a "plot" tag in hopes it gets cleaned up into one paragraph at most. --Vossanova o< 14:11, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've noted that "success was *partly* attributed to the car's placement in the film". That should clear it up. User:AniRaptor2001 08:34, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Catera Touring Sedan?

[edit]

I can hardly believe Cadillac's full name for the car is "Catera Touring Sedan", as someone has recently (re-)added. Any official source? If you saw it in a magazine, then they probably made that name up as a little joke. --Vossanova o< 14:31, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No it's not. Someone out there on the forums reported that GM had officially replied to their inquiry stating that it's "C-class Touring Sedan" (same for STS,DTS. SRX is "Sport Recreation Crossover", if memory serves). I cannot find the "catera suggestion" on this page anymore but if the need arised I can find my source. Though I presume GM came up with these "full versions" after they invented the acronyms, not vice versa ;-) Dimitri.saltanov 04:41, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"C-Series Touring Sedan" still needs to be sourced, but it's pretty clear that it's the real name. It's likely that they decided to keep the first letter of Catera as the "series name" for the new car, but wanted to drop the nameplate to move on from the failure of the previous car and bring all the names together into an acronym family. User:AniRaptor2001 08:35, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It does seem understandable. catera Touring Sedan , as the Seville turned into the STS , Seville Touring Sedan , and the Deville went to DTS and DHS , Deville Touring Sedan and Deville HighLuxury Sedan Kongkit (talk) 04:52, 27 December 2009 (UTC)KongkitKongkit (talk) 04:52, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CTC and CTW - Really?

[edit]

What is the source of the statement that Cadillac will (definitely) introduce coupe and wagon, that they will be 2009 MY and that their names will be CTC and CTW respectively? AFAIK Cadillac has not made any announcements of this kind yet. Dimitri.saltanov 04:31, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The cars have since been presented in concept form, and release dates announced by Cadillac. However, their production names are unclear as yet; C-series Touring Coupe and C-series Sport Wagon or C-series Touring Wagon (CTC, CSW, CTW) could all be likely candidates; the CTS nameplate may also be preserved. Mid-size or entry-level?

[edit]

Is the 08 CTS considered an entry-level car (like MB C-class, BMW 3-series, Audi A4) or a mid-size car (MB E-class, BMW 5-series, Audi A6)? Most people compare the CTS to the former category even though it's closer in size to the latter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.95.253.49 (talk) 04:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The CTS is a mid-size car and does compete with the 5-series, the E-class, the A6. The problem with the CTS being compaired with the 3-series, C-class, and the A4 is that those compairisons are done by matching the prices of a base CTS with a base 3, C or A4.--24.89.215.104 (talk) 02:37, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's American value for ya ;) Chaparral2J (talk) 06:22, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Surely It can't be entry level as there is a smaller model below it. (86.31.190.183 (talk) 02:15, 12 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The Cadillac CTS is absolutely a midsize car, and so is the Lincoln MKZ. 137.25.35.93 (talk) 20:38, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone bulk up the First Generation entry with more information, maybe a couple pictures, so that it can tier up with info box? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sydtron (talkcontribs) 02:35, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Burn Notice

[edit]

Recently the CTS has been featured in the series Burn Notice and has so far played a fairly integral role alongside the Dodge Charger, being the two cars used by the main characters. This has nothing to do with the success of it, but as far as being the vehicle that's been used in multiple episodes it seems somewhat noteworthy, it being popular culture. 70.144.21.124 (talk) 19:52, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of other pop culture references

[edit]

A reference to an episode of the Simpsons in which an entire subplot involving a loaner that looked identical to the CTS was deleted by another user as unimportant trivia. The Simpsons episode did not name the CTS as it is a show that parodies products, rather than use product placement. I don't see how parody can be labeled unimportant trivia, while an entire section devoted to product placement in the Matrix is important trivia. Further, the Escalade entry has an entire section devoted to appearances in pop culture, most of which probably qualify as trivia. Gwconcord (talk) 03:29, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The product placement in The Matrix directly contributed to the notability of the car, as it was planned by GM to be seen by millions before the car's official debut. A parody on The Simpsons did not make the car more noteworthy -- it's already well known. Also, justifying an edit by saying another article has it is not good -- if anything, it points out that other article needs to be fixed as well. See WP:TRIVIA. --Vossanova o< 15:48, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A commercial for the CTS that aired during the Superbowl and featured Led Zeppelin music also was seen by millions and directly contributed to the notability of the car, but that does not necessarily mean a reference to a commercial would be appropriate for an online encyclopedia. The references to pop culture, including parodies, in many other Wikipedia entries is evidence that at least some people find this kind of information interesting. Gwconcord (talk) 17:46, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The point is, as much as people love to add info to Wikipedia on TV, movie, video game, and music video appearances, it is generally frowned upon, especially when it starts taking up more space than actual information about the subject. Under normal circumstances, having a paragraph here about The Matrix would be uncalled for (in fact, it used to be much longer, including a plot summary, but it was appropriately edited down). But, the movie had a lasting effect on the popularity and awareness of the car (in contrast with most Super Bowl ads, which would have a briefer effect - there are a few exceptions). As for the Cadillac Escalade - it is noted for appearing in pop culture a lot, like music videos.. but not every music video needs to be listed, just the general notion. Anyway, that section could really stand to be split off into its own "in popular culture" article, maybe merged with other SUV trivia. --Vossanova o< 19:51, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the other hand, parody appearance on The Simpsons pretty much defines notability. If you are parodied there, you know you have made it. - Tenebris —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.254.156.183 (talk) 02:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let's keep Simpsons fancruft to a minimum. They have numerous parodies/satires on every show. TV references do not imply notability by default. --Vossanova o< 15:18, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unibond - Please justify your recent edits

[edit]

Unibond, please justify your recent edits. You have repeatedly added information to this article which does not belong here regarding the fuel economy of the CTS-V wagon. This is the CTS article, not the Cadillac CTS-V article. The information in question already appears in the CTS-V article. Considering the cursory mention of the CTS-V in this article, it is not appropriate to add such a specific piece of information to this article at all, especially not in the lead. Regarding the lead, you are adding information to the lead that does not appear anywhere in the body, which does not follow the guidelines outlined in MOS:LEAD. What is your justification for adding this fact repeatedly to the wrong article? Help me understand your point of view. 174.21.167.197 (talk) 18:51, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have put one of the most notable facts about the vehicle in the introduction where it belongs. If you want to trim the intro the I suggest taking out the designers. When someone enquires about a car, MPG is often the first question asked, who designed it comes way down the list. Also the awards could be removed as they are decided subjectively ie opinion whereas MPG is a measured quantitatively ie a fact and this is primarily a fact based site. Unibond (talk) 23:18, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Anonymous is absolutely correct. Not only does such trivial information not belong in the lede, it is also a largely meaningless number (does not reflect real world consumption) and is about a car that is not covered here. Also WP is not a buyer's guide.  Mr.choppers | ✎  05:46, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is more relevant than ever now that someone has merged the two pages. I feel it is not accurate to put the two models on the same page since the number of shared parts is extremely small and there are even chassis differences. Ciper (talk) 21:17, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

There has been a merger proposal open since October of 2018, suggesting that Cadillac CTS-V be merged into this article, but no formal discussion has been created, so I have taken the liberty of creating one here. — Puzzledvegetable (talk) 00:44, 11 February 2019 (UTC) + edit[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

Merge Having separate articles for different variants of the same vehicle is adverse to effective research. Unless the topic is too broad, and in this case it isn't, it is more efficient to have everything on one page. — Puzzledvegetable (talk) 00:44, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

These articles should NOT have been merged. It's not just a variant of the same vehicle. They share the name and basic dimensions but there is a very low percentage of shared parts and even some changes to the chassis itself. Ciper (talk) 21:20, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

CTS Performance and trim levels

[edit]

There is no mention here about the CTS Performance. What it is, if it's a trim level, if it actually has engine differences to the base model, if it has the same engine but with a turbo, if it's a model made in conjunction with an aftermarket tuning company, or how it fits into the line-up with the CTS and CTS-V. There's no mention of trim levels in general beyond the CTS-V which doesn't even seem to be a trim level but rather a different car that didn't deserve to be merged with this article possibly adding to confusion due to oversimplification of the subjects to fit them into one article. 68.52.233.112 (talk) 09:33, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
