[edit]Why does the intro sentence say 'was', when the party contested elections in 2007? --Soman (talk) 07:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- You're right, it's incorrect. The COCEI still exists. Also it's a political organization, but not a party. Mixcoatl (talk) 16:52, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
COCEI members run for election, but the movement itself is not a political party. Their candidates have always be endorsed by a political party (PSUM, PRD, PRI and PT) in order to run. Mixcoatl (talk) 18:53, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- But that's depending on the fact that the lack registration as a political party, right? If it periodically launches candidates for election, be it on tickets of other parties, and participates in government, it is de facto a political party. --Soman (talk) 20:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- It is possible for local parties to register in Oaxaca, the Popular Unity Party is an example. (In the most recent gubernatorial elections they endorsed COCEI member Héctor Sánchez López.) Mixcoatl (talk) 20:56, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
