Does he speak Basque?

[edit]

The article currently says Azpilicueta is trilingual, speaking English, French, and Spanish. But as he is a person of Basque heritage, born in Basque Country, I'm curious whether it is known if he speaks Basque as well? Acjohnson55 (talk) 02:11, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It really depends on the personal circumstances, he may be from a family that speaks Basque or had a cultural desire for him to learn it. If not, he probably doesn't. I know that Muniain and Javi Martínez didn't speak it, but Mikel San José did fluently, and they're all from the same kind of area. I'm not from there but my understanding is its more of a tradition or a choice in Pamplona to go down that language route or not, while in the western Basque provinces its used a lot more officially and in education so in younger generations, even those who weren't speaking the language in childhood pick up a lot at school along with Spanish. You may be able to find video interviews of César speaking Basque, but if not, my hunch (but only guessing based on the above) would be that he doesn't. Azpilicueta's Captain status

[edit]

Please add Azpilicueta's Captain status in his Wikipedia description. He is the Chelsea Captain after all. 197.232.61.200 (talk) 11:40, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
