I'd like the person who edited in the bit about everyone with the surname Cárdenas (except through marriage) being able to trace their lineage back to a family in Sicily to maybe provide some more information, like a citation or two. I'm really interested to read more about this find.

Origins
[edit]According to the Spanish wikipedia, the surname Cardenas derived from the town in La Rioja. And this town got his name from the flower Carduus. So Carduus-->Cardenas(place)-->Cardenas as family name. Probably in the begging was used "De Cardenas", common in medieval Spain, when people used to use his place of birth as surnames.--Edhu9 (talk) 07:52, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
