Indigenous forests once covered Malta?
[edit]"Indigenous forests once covered Malta, but trees were cut down for shipbuilding in the era when galleons plied the Mediterranean waters and for agricultural purposes." Is this true? Certainly in 1530 when the Knights arrived in Malta, they complained that it was a barren rock, with little topsoil or water. Buskett was planted by the Knights. I'm not disputing that once it was covered by forests (pretty well everywhere was at one time, even the Sahara) but not, I suspect, up until the days of galleons. Simhedges 20:37, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
