[edit]

Are we sure that the image is of this particular species and not just some other dolphin? The image title is generic and there is nothing in the image description confirming that it is a Burrunan. – ukexpat (talk) 00:50, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly, but the description does say the photo was taken in Port Phillip Bay and there are two types of dolphins resident there: Delphinus delphis and Tursiops australis.[1] Delphinus delphis has quite a dark colouring on the back which the dolphin in the image doesn't. --Canley (talk) 03:37, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Burrunan dolphin no longer considered a species

[edit]

The international taxonomic community decided quite a while ago that this dolphin doesn't actually exist. A paper was published this year completely discrediting the science behind the paper claiming this dolphin to be a new species. Here is the paper: <https://www.nrcresearchpress.com/doi/abs/10.1139/cjz-2018-0270#.XwJpIUUzZPY> The page needs to be changed so that the community is not misled when seeking information about a non-existent species

Thanks, I've added a note about this. --Canley (talk) 01:12, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
