Fair use rationale for Image:Burnt offerings movie poster.jpg

[edit]

Image:Burnt offerings movie poster.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

California? Wave Machine?

[edit]

Where in the film does it ever suggest it takes place in California? It never says where it's taking place. Just because it was filmed there (Oakland), doesn't mean that's where story takes place. In the director's commentary on the DVD, the director says it's an unidentified location, but probably New York.

Also in the director's commentary, he specifically mentions that they didn't have modern wave machines for the scene in the pool. He says there are guys in the pool with large wooden paddles making the waves.Lafong (talk) 06:00, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The film was shot at Dunsmuir House, which just happens to be in Oakland, California. The film narrative itself (I just watched it) makes no reference to this location, however, Dunsmuir House, Oakland, California, is the location where the film was made. The lead paragraph in this WP article makes no such claim for the film narrative. The text does not specifically state that California is where the story takes place. The lead para only states, ". . .the movie moves the action to California. . ."
Mmkay? There isn't a problem with the article text. The problem is with you, you're hung up on comparing the film narrative with the WP article text and not finding a verbatim analog in the film 101.160.16.152 (talk) 13:28, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and the absence of a wave machine for the pool scene---if that production detail is so important to you, you could make it into something practical by putting it in the Production section of the article. I'm not going to do it because I don't care. The onus is on you to do it because it's your baby. So, feed your baby instead of posting on the talk page. Show, don't tell.101.160.16.152 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 13:33, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistencies

[edit]

William F. Nolan is attributed with removing the first part of the film, with the family in New York. In the commentary track, Dan Curtis affirms that this part of the film was indeed shot, and then cut it completely out of the film. Nolan and Curtis both credit themselves for the creation of the chauffeur, but this character most definitely appears in the original novel. 2600:1700:9190:2C10:49C3:2EBE:8190:68BA (talk) 19:50, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
