Reception
[edit]Here are the references suggested by Ayso21 to expand and improve the reception section:
- “We think Disney could learn a thing or two about what a female protagonist should look like from the fearless Burka Avenger.”
- “Burka Avenger meets the local challenges of a nation that struggles with female education and, subsequently, empowerment.”
- “When the world needs a hero, one steps forward.”
- “The Urdu-language show premiered Sunday evening to rave reviews in Pakistan for its colourful animation, pro-education message and cross-generational appeal."
- "Pakistan’s new superhero makes the hoop-skirted, Prince Charming-obssessed Disney princesses look downright antiquated. She was not born into royalty. She does not obsess about her beauty. And shedefinitely does not want or need to be whisked off on some white horse or magiccarpet. No, Jiya, or the Burka Avenger, istoo busy defending women’s rights and education for all. Now that’s what I call a role model for girls.”
- “This all sounds a bit worthy to me…..I'm sold!”

- These references will be great for devising new language for the reception section. We probably shouldn't use all of the quotes, but could incorporate maybe one or two. I'm open to suggestions for how to change the wording or for what to add. I'm less keen on comparisons to Disney Princesses but like that the WaPo piece referred to her as a role model. I would like to suggest these changes because the page is right now giving the impression that there has only been criticism about the show, which is not true. The show has been very well received in Pakistan and globally. The show was screened at SOS village in Rawalpindi, where children said that they loved the show and Burka Avenger is a great role model to be. I am based out of Pakistan and working with the Burka Avenger team for their social media management and would like to point out that all of the responses quoted in this article were before the show went on air. It has been on air for a month now and a lot of people are saying its a great way to change perceptions.
Some of these links and quotes can really help to balance out the article and make it more factual/ realistic instead of focusing only on the negative. Burka Avenger has been talked about a lot globally, just a few mentions from negative articles do not really give the whole picture. My request is to include more references and cite in quotes that have appreciated the concept as well. Ayso21 (talk) 11:46, 31 August 2013 (UTC)Ayso21
- Hi Ayso21. Since you work with the Burka Avenger team for their social media management, I'd like to point you towards our conflict of interest guideline. Rewriting the article to erase any negative commentary like you did here comprises the quality of Wikipedia and violates our neutral point of view policy. Gobōnobō + c 12:31, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
I understand Gobonobol which is precisely why I am requesting a wikipedian to make the changes after evaluating the coverage of the show globally. I am not attempting to make any changes myself anymore and I am not even asking you to revert back to the revision I made. I was not aware of the rules and as soon as I was informed, I have asked for help from you. I insist that the Wikipedia page is still giving out a negative perception and if you purpose is to keep it neutral then that is not the case at the moment. I look forward to your response.
