[edit]ok while it's pretty clear that the two ditties are related, it's going to be tricky to prove due to not being able to interview the 'composer' and the fact that the composition was released posthumously. further, it could easily have been a subconscious thing and most importantly, what needs to be incorporated into this article somewhere, 'buffalo soldier' was POSSIBLY stolen from malawi performer, giddes/agidde/agide chalamanda, who MAY have been the one slightly influenced by the banana splits or happened to provide the inspiration for marley to bridge the two riffs, wittingly or otherwise. the banana splits version happens to fit in perfectly with marley's rhythm while agide provides the 'oys' in places of the 'las'. i'm only just looking into this now but so far i'm gathering that agide's song with the same name and basic chord progression is ALLEGEDY CLAIMED BY AGIDE to have been written 4 years prior to marley's (1974 vs 1978) but this is something yet to be proven too.
