Demons, or daemons, weren't always considered evil in Christianity, especially after occult Christianity emerged. The idea of summoning demons and familiars, which could either be beneficial or not, was primarily a result of paganism and occult theology injecting itself into Medieval Christianity. Anyway, if you really want to get technical, it was Satan who tempted Adam and Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which includes morality and ethics, philosophy, and knowledge of herblore as a whole. God wanted man to remain ignorant and suppliant to Him, whereas Satan wanted to set us "free", as some Satanists would argue. Then again, the price of freedom was imperfection and, according to some Christians, Adam and Eve were virtual omniscient, anyway. –Nøkkenbuer (talk) 05:50, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
