Encyclopedic?
[edit]I love Dogma as much as anybody, but will this ever be encylopedic? Maybe this should redirect to Dogma (movie). Friday 01:42, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
Nah. It's funny enough to have its own article. -Alex 12.220.157.93 04:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC).
"Church of Buddy Christ"
[edit]I removed the Buddy Christ Church link. It's not notable enough to be linked, and its centered on Yahoo! Groups. Aaрон Кинни (t) 00:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
AFP reports Buddy Christ discontent in Baghdad
[edit]There are reports on the net of anger by residents of Shiite dominated Badr City in Baghdad over what they percieved to be a slight against a Shiite Imam.
Iraqi Shiite residents of Baghdad's Sadr City expressed anger yesterday over a picture of a grinning Jesus they mistook for a Shiite holy figure that appeared in the area after a joint US-Iraqi operation. Residents found a picture of "Buddy Jesus" from the 1999 film "Dogma" posted in the streets, accompanied by a badly photocopied pamphlet bearing a crude approximation of a US military crest and outlining a US "plan" to subjugate the neighbourhood. "That picture abuses our Imam Mahdi and his holy character, and mocks our sacred figures," said resident Abu Riyam, apparently mistaking the satirical movie still of Jesus for one of Shiite Islam's historical imams, whose images adopt a Jesus-like iconography.
Ain't that a peach? I'd say it definately ups the public profile of "Buddy Jesus," or "Buddy Christ" or whatever. I dont have the chops to link everything in this story but I think someone should add it.

- Here's a proposal for added text, still needs links and refs:
In October, 2006, Iraqi Shiite residents of Baghdad’s Sadr City expressed outrage over an image of ‘Buddy Christ’ that appeared in pamphlets and posters in the area following a joint US-Iraqi operation. The posters contained the image of Buddy Christ, a forgery of a US military crest and the outline of a plan to subjugate the area. Residents protested because they believed the images mocked Mahdi, a revered Shiite imam.
Also, should you mention the joke?
[edit]"Buddy Christ" is of course a wordplay on the Catholic Mass invocation of the "Body of Christ."

Jason Lee?
[edit]Is Jason Lee the model for Buddy Christ? Also, I don't think the picture of Christ on Jay's shirt in Clerks II is Buddy Christ. Milchama 12:02, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Nope. According to the commentary of Dogma, the face of the Buddy Christ is based slightly on the sculptor that created it.JohnnyRush10 08:55, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Weird! I know the man who designed it, and it does look freakishly like him!! -- 144.118.53.147 (talk) 06:37, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Might be nice to name the sculptor in the article, unless he has a problem with that ;) —Tamfang (talk) 05:34, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Other use of Buddy Christ picture
[edit]I've seen it as a spray in CS:S that says
"Jesus loves you, But I still think you're a cunt."
with the Buddy Jesus picture behind it
Just wondering if that's notable.Mattz1010 03:46, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Buddy Christ.jpg
[edit]Image:Buddy Christ.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
