Not Bison before 1923
[edit]The "Bison" nickname for Bucknell teams seems to date from no earlier than 1923. A search for "Bucknell Bison" on Newspapers.com shows nothing before that date, but several references per year starting in 1923. The first hit for "Bucknell Bison" is this article, which notes the pride of Penn State athletes in the Nittany Lion, and California athletes in the Bear, and states: "Bucknell teams have never had any like nickname, and interested alumni say there is a logical reason why the men who wear the Bucknell colors should be known as the Bucknell Bison." This is obviously a proposed future nickname, not a current nickname in April 1923.
Accordingly, today I'll be removing "Bison" from all the Wikipedia articles and links on the navbox template for Bucknell football teams from 1922 and prior. As the article linked above asserts that this was the college's first official athletic nickname, there's no need to replace "Bison" with anything. Articles will be moved from, e.g., 1901 Bucknell Bison football team to 1901 Bucknell football team, following the example of, e.g., 1901 Dartmouth football team and 1905 Fordham football team. ``` t b w i l l i e ` $1.25 ` 03:00, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
