Re map
[edit]Normally bios don't need maps, but what would be needed here, or helpful, is a map of the Stikine Country/Wrangell showing the various locations mentioned in the text.Skookum1 (talk) 17:11, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Re name/title
[edit]I went with the name-form used in the BCGNIS cite, which is of course an English convention. He is most commonly known as Buck Choquette, but his French birth-name is of course Alexandre....I almost titled it Alexandre Choquette and maybe that should be the proper title....it would be better if we had his middle names, as he likely did (given quebecois conventions about such)...I haven't made either redirect yet in case somebody from WPBio or WPQuebec or WPCanada feels the name should be in the French form, or should be simplified to the most-common "Buck Choquette".....Skookum1 (talk) 17:54, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think Buck Choquette is probably the right title. The naming conventions say to use the most common name, which is not necessarily the proper name, for example, more people would search for MC Hammer than his proper name, Stanley Kirk Burrell which redirects there. - Well, that certainly solves the problem of whether to use teh French or English form of Alexander (which he was rarely known by, and the French form is likely what was on his birth certificate; there was no death certificate, os the story goes). Inteerstingly, many of his offspring wound up with "Buck" as sort of a nick-surname...e.g. Henry Buck....Skookum1 (talk) 19:14, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- also on the choquet-te.org website I found this much more detailed page, which has some nice bits in it....gonna try and find that newspaper article, I think it must have been in Wrangell's paper...Skookum1 (talk) 19:16, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I made the change, I don't think there's any reason for dispute; I also amended the Choquette disambiguation page.Skookum1 (talk) 19:32, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Notable descendants?
[edit]Henry Wadsworth "Eskey" Clark was Choquette's grandson, born in Wrangell in 1899. He spent decades as the D.C.-based lobbyist for the Alaska Steamship Company. Clark privately published a biography of his grandfather in 1960, though I've yet to come across a copy anywhere. I have seen copies of other works of his, mostly on early Alaska history in general.
Dave Choquette, who represented south Anchorage in the Alaska House of Representatives for a single term in the late 1980s, dropped hints over the years about being a descendant. I haven't seen any information even remotely solid to confirm or deny this. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 14:29, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
