Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedy deleted because subject is notable. --Dolovis (talk) 14:56, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Wheres the proof? Being drafted in the first round, doesn't automatically make him notable.--Yankees10 15:20, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- WP:WPBB/N is the rules for presumed nobility of baseball players. Being drafted in the first round does not make one notable. Last year's first round pick would be notable because of all the news coverage about him... him being the best thing since sliced bread and "outlandish" behavior. A first round football or basketball pick is considered notable because they will be playing with their team. A baseball player could languish in the minor leagues and never make it to the majors. With that being said, Starling is a little more interesting than normal because he is a University of Nebraska quarterback recruit. At the moment the article contains only one major reference which is the USA Today one. There are others out there, but the article needs to be expanded to include those.
- Dolovis, next time you remove a speedy delete tag, could you give your reasons as to why you removed it. Giving an explanation rather than saying just "because subject is notable" would save alot of time and banter. Ahh shucks, that is probably asking too much from a barbarian, er, Ice Hockey fan. :) Bgwhite (talk) 00:05, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- I put it up for WP:PROD. Most first round picks are not notable. First overall picks are generally notable, other major award winners can qualify, but random talented high school players? Mostly, they aren't. I don't see why this one is. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- I really hate when people use this to defend why an article shouldn't be deleted, but I have to bring it up... Per WP:GNG, he has been the subject of "significant coverage in reliable sources" on his decision to be a quarterback for one of the top college football programs or earn millions in a signing bonus. This long story on ESPN is a prime example. Personally, I'm on the WP:Deletionist side and I don't think he is notable or at least too soon. However, if taken to AfD, he would probably be kept. Obi Egekeze was kept and he was a placekicker for the University of Maryland, never made the pros and never made any all-conference team. He was kept per GNG. Your best bet is to take it to AfD and make a very good convincing argument. Bgwhite (talk) 04:39, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
