Brokers make markets by bringing together buyers and sellers who might otherwise not find each other. This is especially helpful when the buyer has a specialized need within a broad industry and the broker's expertise can be used to find the right seller out of many. Brokers don't represent either the buyer or seller in a transaction but generally succeed by finding win/win situations for all involved. Brokers typically buy at wholesale from the seller, sell at or near retail to the buyer and pocket the difference as their profit in the transaction. Brokers operate in many industries: There are stock brokers, business brokers, print brokers, business valuation brokers, commercial real estate brokers, shipping and trucking brokers, etc. Submitted by Brian Setzler, May 16, 2005 ..and yet, while they help the buyer finding a seller, brokers in some industries are little more than a sales force on commission. I added Insurance Broker to the list, and intend to add an article by the same title. The Broker article also needs a mention of the practice of Churning, as well as a mention of other practices.--CodeGeneratR 22:34, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
Requested addition of Telecommunications Broker
This is a request to add a page link to a new page called Telecommunications broker. Unfortunately i have previously added this link and page but it was removed by a user who has since been permanently banned. I hope to add this page again in the hope that it will not just be spitefully removed. (The previous user had added a link which i saw as spam. I removed his link, (then i stuffed-up and replaced it with mine - i am new at this and i did apologise), then i created an entire page for Telecommunications Broker (and invited the 'spam-like' editor to contribute), he went off the deep end and sent me rude emails and told me he would block all future attempts for me to add ANY content. So, if i put up this link, will it be deleted? Am i wasting my time? Sudsymate 22:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Other types of brokers
I'd like to change the title of Types of Financial Brokers to "Types of Brokers". I don't think of Real Estate Brokers as financial brokers. Also they do not fit the model of buying something then selling it themselves. Please also add "Software Broker" to the list. Thanks Expatb 17:34, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Etymology
Is there information on the etymology of the word, and possible relations to the verb 'break' (since the past participle 'broke' is similar). Tyciol (talk) 17:29, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Brokerage account
"Brokerage account" redirects here, but what is a brokerage account? The article does not use or explain the term. In the article Cheque the "custodian" of a "brokerage account" is mentioned. Is there something special about such accounts that they have custodians, or is that mention there perhaps too specialized (it would also seem to apply to custodians of minors)? --Lambiam 09:14, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
