Requested move 22 July 2017
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: not moved. There is already a DAB page at Broken Machine (disambiguation). The consensus seems clear that when the upcoming album is released, there can be another discussion but for now it wouldn't be necessary. Broken Machine → Broken Machine (song) – There is going to be an album by Nothing but Thieves of the same name coming out in September, and even though that article does not exist yet, I would like a dab page created early to distinguish this song and the upcoming album. 2601:8C:4001:DCB9:818D:A6DB:D4B4:E7ED (talk) 11:55, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

- There is no need to create a dab page to disambiguate between a current article and a future album that may or may not be notable enough to have its own article. ~ GB fan 15:31, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- But judging by the sales of the last one, this is inevitable. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:29, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- Inevitable? Ha-ha-ha-ha.... Move it when it happens; there's no rush. — AjaxSmack 22:43, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

- Support might as well do it now, the dab should include:
- Spencer Breslin (redirect from Broken Machine (band))
- Broken Machine a song written and performed by New Zealand musician Zowie 2010
- I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me from Being the Master (redirect from Broken Machine (Electric Six song))
- Luke (album) (redirect from Broken Machine (Steve Lukather song))
- Crow (Australian band) (redirect from A Broken Machine) (1997)
- See also Patrick Phillips poetry collection Elegy for a Broken Machine (Alfred A. Knopf), was a finalist.. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:42, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:CRYSTALBALL. 2601:8C:4001:DCB9:818D:A6DB:D4B4:E7ED: Here's how to do it. First, create an article about the album at "Broken Machine (album)". Then, request the move as above. Otherwise, other editors are just gazing into a crystal ball. To the other editors above: First, create Broken Machine (disambiguation)". Then, request the move. — AjaxSmack 22:43, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose for now - Wait until album is created before requesting a move. --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:15, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose until the point that the album article (1) exists and (2) challenges this article as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Cúchullain t/c 13:58, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose for now. Even if the album had been released last week, its existence alone would not prove the absence of a primary topic. Note to @In ictu oculi: you should go ahead and create the disambiguation page at Broken Machine (disambiguation). When this album does come out, we can have a multi-move discussion and have traffic from the dab as a metric to inform it. bd2412 T 02:22, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

– There are many other topics with this title. — Zawl 17:43, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
- Support that was predictable and WP:RECENT but album 7,000 views to 9 for the song. However I don't think everyone will accept (Zowie song) unless the new album title track is also a single. Is it? In ictu oculi (talk) 18:23, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
- Support – Neither this nor the album should be the primary topic, but move this page to Broken Machine (song) instead. JE98 (talk) 16:34, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- Support move to Broken Machine (song). That's the preferred disambiguation per WP:SONGDAB; the artist name isn't included unless there are multiple articles on songs of the same title.--Cúchullain t/c 18:40, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Broken Machine (Zowie song) → Broken Machine (song) – No other songs with this title have an article, just this one. JE98 (talk) 16:01, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

- Object to speedy rename multiple songs exist in album articles on Wikipedia with this name. This fails to distinguish between existing topics that are covered as subtopics of other articles. -- 70.51.46.15 (talk) 07:04, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- @JE98 and 70.51.46.15: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 07:53, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- Speedy procedural close this was just discussed last month, at the Requested Move above that determined this structure, therefore the speedy move request was procedurally wrong. -- 70.51.46.15 (talk) 08:00, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- I don’t even see why this needs to be discussed. Look at the dab page. No other song with this name has an article except this song. I’m sorry, but I’m somewhat insulted. Is it really that hard to understand? JE98 (talk) 19:42, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
- This was discussed last month, so the outcome should either be sent to WP:MRV for move review, or we should wait a sufficient amount of time to open a discussion. (such as another two months) -- 70.51.46.15 (talk) 05:16, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. We can move it back if another song of this name gets an article. Jenks24 (talk) 06:58, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Broken Machine (Zowie song) → Broken Machine (song) – I know I have requested this before, at this point, this is getting ridiculous. This is the ONLY song with an article called "Broken Machine", no other song with that name on the dab page has an article. I don't see why this is the name, and since the technical request failed miserably, I am going to have to formally request this move. - Oppose there's new album out with this title and the title track from Broken Machine (album) is currently getting airplay. No one benefits from hiding the artist from a song that only charted No.11 in New Zealand. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:15, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi: I am 100% aware of the album, but does the title track have an article? I don't see one, and this is the ONLY song called "Broken Machine" with an article, and WP:DAB says since that is the case, only "(song)" should be after the name. JE98 (talk) 19:46, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- No, that's a misunderstanding of WP:DAB not uncommon among popular music editors but it isn't a hard and fast rule that contradicts common sense. Common sense here is this is a borderline notable song which shouldn't really have an article and with a new song of the same name out right now, therefore now is not the moment to be pointing Nothing But Thieves fans to an obscure New Zealand song from seven years ago. It'd be fun to send them off there, but it wouldn't be nice. So let's drop it. In ictu oculi (talk) 19:51, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- Unless you create it, that song will not be getting on mainstream charts or much airplay except on Radio 1, where most alternative songs played there do not make the Official Charts top 40. Trust me, I know what the chart's like, and I highly doubt the Nothing but Thieves song, as much as I like the band, will get popular or have an article here. JE98 (talk) 01:58, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- Well, the new song came up first on YouTube. Not surprisingly. There's no shame in a song article having the artist's name. Let the Zowie song be labelled clearly per WP:TITLE or better merge this barely notable song into the album Love Demolition. The article has no content about the actual song anyway, and this is was a one-not-really-a-hit-wonder in New Zealand that the singer has never repeated. Does the encyclopedia need this song article? - Support. Pretty clear-cut application of WP:SONGDAB. Frankly, this should have been done in the September move discussion. Per WP:SONGDAB, we do not include the artist name unless there are multiple articles on songs of the same name. There are no other articles on songs named "Broken Machine".--Cúchullain t/c 14:26, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support per WP:PRECISE. There's only one article currently on WP about a song named "Broken Machine", so no need for overprecise disambiguation. Station1 (talk) 03:56, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
