Height above river
[edit]It's a lot more than 13 ft above the river, the figure given in the article. 66.234.220.195 (talk) 15:44, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps that considers the river at normal or average stage. The Sternwheeler Rose (dinner cruise boat), despite its small size and minor clearance does not to go under it, mostly since it would have to raise the tracks portion for it to clear most days. It would be useful if the clearance explained how it was computed. I would understand it better if it said 13 feet clearance at zero Columbia River Datum (CRD). EncMstr 17:53, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- If you take a second look at the infobox, you'll see that "Clearance below" is listed as 70 ft, while "Vertical clearance" is listed as 13 ft. The vertical clearance is the clearance for vehicles traveling on the bridge itself and the clearance below is the height of the bridge above the river. - Quite right! Thanks for the clarification. —EncMstr 18:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Except that the vertical clearance for traffic is 12'6", according to a sign on the bridge (though it might be greater in the central lanes). 108.246.205.134 (talk) 04:01, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
Dates dont make sense
[edit]The article says "The bridge was opened on April 22, 1913 at a cost of $1.6 million. It filled a growing need for a bridge between the St. Johns Bridge at river mile 5.8, and the downtown Steel Bridge at river mile 12.1."
How could this be when construction on the St. Johns bridge did not begin until 1929?
In 1913 there was no St. Johns Bridge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.170.80.132 (talk) 18:21, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- I suspect it means the very busy ferry service at the St. Johns site, and not the bridge. —EncMstr (talk) 19:14, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
While that may be the case - that's not what it says. As worded, the line is obviously incorrect.
I am removing the line... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.170.80.134 (talk) 18:14, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
