To add to article
[edit]Basic information to add to this article (in order to help make it more properly encyclopedic): the etymology/origin of this place name.
Is this information correct?
Its name is derived from the Old French word "Bretesche," which translates to "boarding" or "planking." This term likely refers to the wooden fortifications or palisades that were once used to protect castles or other settlements in the area. Over time, "Bretesche" evolved into the Irish word "Briotás" and then into the modern English form "Brittas." The "Bay" part of the name simply indicates the coastal location. Thus, the name Brittas Bay essentially signifies a place that was once protected by wooden structures, a common feature in medieval Ireland.
