There seems to be a mistake at the bottom of the images of medal ribbons for the 19th Century - as the last two are the same. If they are indeed the same, perhaps this needs to be stated.

This has been a useful page in trying to identify ribbons on a black and white photo - so thanks to the person who looks after this article!

Lester May

This is correct - the Queen's South Africa Medal and the Transport Medal shared the same ribbon. This was actually not all that rare in the 19th century - if you look at the head of that section you will see the 'rainbow' design of ribbon was re-used almost a dozen times for various Indian/Afghan campaign medals. Glad to hear you found the article useful.

QSA but no KSA - Why is there a Queen's South Africa Medal (1899) but not a King's South Africa Medal (1902) shown; it is always called the King's South Africa Medal, and the Africa General Service Medal is different. There are entries for the KSA on the Australian & New Zealand pages, which could be copied across. KSA page needs a comment that most soldiers who went to South Africa (even in 1902) got the QSA only! Hugo999 14:30, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Re New Zealand Medals: Is a picture of the 1869 New Zealand Medal avaliable? Re WWI British War Medal & Victory Medal, a NZ soldier who got to England but not the front qualified for War Medal but not Victory Medal (also applies to Australian, Canadian troops?) Well spotted re the KSA. A simple case of mistaken omission I'm afraid. So far as your other points go, please feel free to amend the articles if you have a point that you consider needs to be made. --Xdamrtalk 17:20, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mutt and Jeff?

[edit]

I arrived here from the Mutt and Jeff disambig page after hitting it from the article about Harry Patch, could someone point out which medals they are? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.86.153 (talk) 23:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now I am confused. I also arrived from the Harry Patch page. The ribbon for the WW1 Victory Medal is shown on this page as rainbow, roughly blue/yellow/red/yellow/blue. That is not the Victory Medal (UK) but the World War I Victory Medal (United States). Is Mutt and Jeff a term used by GB soldiers? Seems unlikely as it was very much a US comic strip.Cross Reference (talk) 14:12, 26 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cross Reference (talkcontribs) 14:07, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"21st Century" Medal

[edit]

The 21st Century started on 1st January 2001! The Gregorian calendar started at year 1 not year zero. The OSM medal for Sierra Leone should appear under the 20th century heading. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Duarcain (talkcontribs) 18:13, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

new page

[edit]

I have added the Territorial Forces War Medal so if anyone has an image of it they can include? The title of the medal in Joslin & Dorling is "Territorial Force War Medal" (Force nor Forces) so will change by redirect if no objections. PS: Noted the Imperial War Museum site does not include it, but has only 4 British campaign medals for WWI, see [ http://www.iwm.org.uk/server/show/ConWebDoc.986] Hugo999 (talk) 04:18, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rplacing HEIC Medals and Kabul to Kandahar Star

[edit]

I have replaced the 'HEIC_Jellalabad_and_others_ribbon_bar.svg' medal bar as it inverts the ribbon - the red should be on the left, while that shown on Wikipedia until now shows the blue on the left. See http://www.medals.org.uk/united-kingdom/united-kingdom-ribbons3.htm , ribbon chart in British Battles and Medals by Joslin, Litherland and Simpkin, any edition of Dorling's Ribbon and Medals.
