Closing / Moving
[edit]Nothing really about why it was closed in 2008, and is it going to move to / reopen in London Hugo999 (talk) 10:50, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- It appears that nothing has been progressed since the announcement of closure in 2008 and the museum website has not been updated. The section on the dismissal of the director has some references into the apparently unauthorised disposal of some of the exhibits, nothing else seems to be known. - I have no reliable sources I could quote, but I believe the financial models for the proposed site in London are no longer viable due to changes in property prices/rents and likely visitor numbers are less since the financial crisis. I understand work continues, despite the end of public access, amongst curators and archivists to catalogue artefacts etc at the current site - including a major piece of work on the history of the Rhodesian army. I have no information about future plans— Rod talk 15:39, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- The 2009 accounts at the charity commission website show they have borrowed over £1 million from banks, backed up by property assets valued around £3 million. Operating loss £160k, with 7 FTE employees costing £273k (highest paid employee earned £60-70k). So they seem able to operate for quite a while, but long-term prospects unclear. Not really anything for the article though. Rwendland (talk) 16:28, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
