British Empire

[edit]

I don't think you can consider Cheung Chi-Wai and his older brother Chi-Doy to be British Asians. They were both from Hong Kong and represented Nationalist China (now Taiwan) internationally. They were not British by birth or descent, nor were they raised in Britain.

Unless you consider that anyone born within the British Empire is British by default, but that would then include thousands of footballers born in India, Malaya, Australia, Canada, etc. 129.11.76.215 (talk) 09:43, 21 May 2012 (UTC) (nfm24)[reply]

Good point, removed. GiantSnowman 10:04, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Racism

[edit]

Roger Verdi, of Indian origin, was forced to change his name because of racism, and had to move to the United States in order to start a professional career.[6][7]

Maybe it was because he wasn't good enough? Surely that should be stated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.91.125 (talk) 04:16, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's not supported by reliable sources. GiantSnowman 09:42, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Niall Aadya Mason, a pro player at Peterborough United F.C., formerly at the Real Madrid and Aston Villa academies and later Doncaster Rovers, has an Indian mother, according to a few reliable sources (and has an Indian middle name): he should be added to the list below. As an aside, the list could do with a bold highlight for currently active players, similar to other lists such as appearance/goals records. Mountaincirque 11:13, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to include if there is a reliable source saying he has Asian heritage. However I am against bolding 'current' players - how do you define that (ie what if a player is not signed to a club but not announced retirement), who will update it etc.? Fair comment, it was just a thought but if the page is not active enough then I agree it could get out of date. There are a number of comments in the current (poorly framed in my opinion) lead section about the number of British Asian professionals, it seemed to make sense that the reader could see who they were in the article below. Maybe down the line this could be considered once the page is cleaned up. Mountaincirque 12:12, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
