Findings
[edit]Its pretty weird to have this one "finding" an no mention of the ozone hole... William M. Connolley (talk) 22:02, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Directors
[edit]So, Nick Owens was appointed in 2007, replaced Chris Rapley [1]. I remember that.
Nick Owens left in May 2012 [2], and the current interim director is Ed Hill [3].
Chris Rapley was director from 1998 to 2007.
David Drewry was director from 1987-1994 [4].
Barry Heywood was director from 1994-1997 (no ref, but Ashby_School says it, and I remember it).
The article already says that Fuchs did it from 1958 to 1973.
That leaves 1973-1987.

- Ah yes, Dick Laws, how could I forget him? He was the reason BAS ended up in Cambrdige, according to rumuor William M. Connolley (talk) 17:32, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Falkland Isles / Malvinas
[edit]Two ip editors (although based on their addresses and geolocation, I suspect them to be the same person) have recently added "Islas Malvinas" to the end of "Falkland Isles" here and here.
This was reverted by myself and another editor. Rationale is that the commonname here on Wikipedia is Falkland Islands and we don't include translations or differing names based on geography (or politics). If you wish to include the term "Islas Malvinas" as the Falkland's name, please get it changed over at the target article first.
Additionally, the insertions broke the links so they went nowhere. At the very least preview should have shown that one up.
Finally - lack of edit summaries, but as geolocation shows that both IP addresses are suburbs of Buenos Aires, I'm guessing it's a case of patriotism rather than outright vandalism - but that doesn't mean it isn't disruptive. Chaheel Riens (talk) 14:13, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- WP:NCGN#Falkland Islands sets out the appropriate circumstances in which to refer to "Malvinas". None of those circumstances apply here.
- But this sort of low level disruption from Argentine IPs is fairly common on this topic and we normally just revert and ignore. Kahastok talk 14:36, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of that, which is surprising because I've edited the Falkland article itself. Cheers for the info, and will utilise in the future. Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:44, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
