Thank you....

[edit]

.... for a wonderful short article, a fantastic quote and a good laugh! Amandajm (talk) 16:20, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should information be in the lede about what country these dancers are from?

[edit]

I added that they were British but my edit was reverted by an English editor who is watching this page. Simply having the names of English cities without any country context isn't enough for the vast majority of us outside of the UK. Thoughts?Timtempleton (talk) 22:42, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a local institution, not a national one. The locality is identified in the lead as Bacup in Lancashire – a major historical county which is bigger than some European countries such as Luxembourg or Malta. If readers want to know more about these places, they can follow the blue links provided. Andrew D. (talk) 09:09, 22 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in the US, and I've never heard of Lancashire. I think forcing an extra click navigation step to get maximum value from an article where one simple word will do is overkill. I've made a similar argument to people who feel that instead of an infobox people should just read the whole article. People are very busy and if their time is respected they will appreciate the site more. Anyone else agree or disagree?Timtempleton (talk) 21:07, 22 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I do have some sympathy for this view. Bacup isn't a particularly well known place even for English readers, though they would generally know where Lancashire was. I see no problem with changing the lede to 'Bacup, Lancashire, England', even though it introduces some duplication. --Ef80 (talk) 17:01, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
